Watch passionate locals discuss politics, play dominoes and smoke cigars. Shimmy at a salsa class, shop designer boutiques and race marlin and sharks by speedboat. Then slow your pace to uncover rare and endangered species at the Everglades National Park outdoor oasis. If you associate Puerto Rico’s capital with the colonial streets of Old San Juan, then you know only part of the picture. San Juan is a major metropolis, radiating out from the bay on the Atlantic Ocean that was discovered by Juan Ponce de León. More than a third of the island’s nearly 4 million citizens proudly call themselves sanjuaneros. The city may be rooted in the past, but it has its eye on the future. Locals go about their business surrounded by colonial architecture and towering modern structures.By 1508 the explorer Juan Ponce de León had established a colony in an area now known as Caparra, southeast of present-day San Juan. He later moved the settlement north to a more hospitable peninsular location. In 1521, after he became the first colonial governor, Ponce de León switched the name of the island—which was then called San Juan Bautista in honor of St. John the Baptist—with that of the settlement of Puerto Rico (“rich port”).Defended by the imposing Castillo San Felipe del Morro (El Morro) and Castillo San Cristóbal, Puerto Rico’s administrative and population center remained firmly in Spain’s hands until 1898, when it came under U.S. control after the Spanish-American War. Centuries of Spanish rule left an indelible imprint on the city, particularly in the walled area now known as Old San Juan. The area is filled with cobblestone streets and brightly painted, colonial-era structures, and its fortifications have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Old San Juan is a monument to the past, but most of the rest of the city is planted firmly in the 21st century and draws migrants island-wide and from farther afield to jobs in its businesses and industries. The city captivates residents and visitors alike with its vibrant lifestyle as well as its balmy beaches, pulsing nightclubs, globe-spanning restaurants, and world-class museums. Once you set foot in this city, you may never want to leave.

Explore the oldest US city for a dose of Caribbean history, slice of Spanish culture and twist of American dream. Roam historic Old San Juan alleyways to glimpse centuries-old forts and colourful colonial buildings. Learn how to move, as locals sashay out the salsa to rhythmic reggae beats. Shop the boho streets or glamorous boutiques for artisan goods, decadent designers and hand-rolled cigars. Experience world-class surfing, explore a tropical rainforest, attend a private rum cocktail tasting and polish off empanadas. Then retire to one of the beautiful beaches to soak up crystal clear waters and, perhaps, one last rum cocktail.
Although it’s one of the smallest capitals in the Caribbean, Roseau has the highest concentration of inhabitants of any town in the eastern Caribbean. Caribbean vernacular architecture and a bustling marketplace transport visitors back in time. Although you can walk the entire town in about an hour, you’ll get a much better feel for the place on a leisurely stroll. For some years now, the Society for Historical Architectural Preservation and Enhancement (SHAPE) has organized programs and projects to preserve the city’s architectural heritage. Several interesting buildings have already been restored. Lilac House, on Kennedy Avenue, has three types of gingerbread fretwork, latticed verandah railings, and heavy hurricane shutters. The J.W. Edwards Building, at the corner of Old and King George V sreets, has a stone base and a wooden second-floor gallery. The Old Market Plaza is the center of Roseau’s historic district, which was laid out by the French on a radial plan rather than a grid, so streets such as Hanover, King George V, and Old radiate from this area. South of the marketplace is the Fort Young Hotel, built as a British fort in the 18th century; the nearby statehouse, public library, and Anglican cathedral are also worth a visit. New developments at the bay front on Dame M.E. Charles Boulevard have brightened up the waterfront.

Soak up the ultimate wellbeing experience at a real life “Nature Island.” Oxygenate in lush rainforests, revive under waterfalls, convene in thermal sprint waters, and detox in volcanic mud baths. Trek Morne Trois Pintons National Park, a UNESCO jewel with the Mother Nature’s rarest flora and fauna. Stir-up true Caribbean soul food; taste callaloo soup; sip spiced rum; and learn how herbs can heal. To cap it all, you can even snorkel in the bubbles of uber-healthy Champagne Reef.
The typical image of a lush tropical paradise comes to life on the friendly island of St Lucia. Despite its small size – just 27 miles long and 14 miles wide – St Lucia is rich in natural splendour with dense emerald rainforest, banana plantations and orchards of coconut, mango and papaya trees. The twin peaks of Les Pitons, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site rise dramatically 2,000 feet into the sky and dominate the island. Look out for unusual birds with brilliant plumage such as the St Lucia parrot, see a surprising diversity of exotic flora and enjoy the warm hospitality of the islanders in the small villages and open-air markets. Please be aware that St Lucia is a small, mountainous island, with steep, winding and bumpy roads. Customers with back and neck problems should take this into consideration when booking an excursion.

Wind your way through the romantic island of St Lucia. Hike up the majestic UNESCO-listed Pitons, wallow in a volcanic mud bath, lounge on black sand beaches, explore botanical gardens and venture into a tropical jungle scattered with banana, coconut and mango plantations. Choose between calm Caribbean or choppy Atlantic seas to skim through waters by catamaran, private boat or kayak. Refresh beneath a waterfall, watch gliding whales and enjoy freshly caught mahi mahi with local Piton beer. Or just relax into an inner glow of serenity as you unwind in this tranquil tropical isle.
Located beside the island’s only natural harbour, the capital of Barbados combines modern and colonial architecture with glorious palm tree-lined beaches and a number of historical attractions. Experience the relaxed culture of the city renowned for its British-style parliament buildings and vibrant beach life, and seek out the Anglican church and the 19th-century Barbados Garrison. The distance between the ship and your tour vehicle may vary. This distance is not included in the excursion grades.

Gently breeze into the vibrant capital of Barbados. Steeped in fascinating history, with architecture to match, uncover the wonderfully laid-back West Indian ambiance. Embrace the slow Bajan rhythm of this welcoming island; surf, snorkel and try spotting turtles in balmy azure waters. Explore subterranean Harrison’s Cave, Jacobean St Nicholas Abbey and zipline high above bountiful tropical flora. Then return to restore on pastel pink sands at palm-studded beaches, where you’ll discover cocktail hour is endless, and measures of rum are copious.

Unwind in the beautiful island of Bonaire, rooted in Dutch heritage. Immerse in a dazzling underwater wonderland where warm cobalt waters make way for blissful swimming, sailing and snorkelling. Inland is just as enticing with pink-hued sands and island cars that bear ‘paradise’ badges of honour. Journey off-road through Arawak history, kayak through mangroves and visit saltwater lagoons at the aptly named Goto Lake – where flocks of pink flamingos pose. You’ll find a hint of pink tint at every turn – no need for rose-tinted glasses in this paradisiacal place.
Dutch settlers came here in the 1630s, about the same time they sailed through the Verazzano Narrows to Manhattan, bringing with them original red-tile roofs, first used on the trade ships as ballast and later incorporated into the architecture of Willemstad. Much of the original colonial structures remain, but this historic city is constantly reinventing itself and the government monument foundation is always busy restoring buildings in one urban neighborhood or another. The salty air causes what is called “wall cancer” which causes the ancient abodes to continually crumble over time. The city is cut in two by Santa Anna Bay. On one side is Punda (the point)—crammed with shops, restaurants, monuments, and markets and a new museum retracing its colorful history. And on the other side is Otrobanda (literally meaning the “other side”), with lots of narrow, winding streets and alleyways (called “steekjes” in Dutch), full of private homes notable for their picturesque gables and Dutch-influenced designs. In recent years the ongoing regeneration of Otrobanda has been apparent, marked by a surge in development of new hotels, restaurants, and shops; the rebirth, concentrated near the waterfront, was spearheaded by the creation of the elaborate Kura Hulanda complex.There are three ways to cross the bay: by car over the Juliana Bridge; by foot over the Queen Emma pontoon bridge (locally called “The Swinging Old Lady”); or by free ferry, which runs when the pontoon bridge is swung open for passing ships. All the major hotels outside town offer free shuttle service to town once or twice daily. Shuttles coming from the Otrobanda side leave you at Riffort. From here it’s a short walk north to the foot of the pontoon bridge. Shuttles coming from the Punda side leave you near the main entrance to Ft. Amsterdam.

Embrace a slice of Europe immersed in Caribbean heat. Wander through Scharlooweg’s pastel colonial architecture, delightful museums and a thriving art scene. Roam glorious beaches with hidden caves, snorkel with turtles and dive through spectacular reefs. Learn how to cook Creole cuisine, walk the town’s sun-kissed waterways, explore the prickly Hato Plains and then re-hydrate in ripe aloe plantations. As the heat of the day subsides, drop into trendy eclectic lounges, where friendly locals welcome and the legendary blue curacao cocktail awaits.
Aruba’s capital is easily explored on foot. Its palm-lined central thoroughfare runs between old and new pastel-painted buildings of typical Dutch design (Spanish influence is also evident in some of the architecture). There are a lot of malls with boutiques and shops—the Renaissance mall carries high-end luxury items and designer fashions. A massive renovation in downtown has given Main Street (a.k.a. Caya G. F. Betico Croes) behind the Renaissance Resort a whole new lease on life: boutique malls, shops, and restaurants have opened next to well-loved family-run businesses. The pedestrian-only walkway and resting areas have unclogged the street, and the new eco-trolley is free and a great way to get around. At this writing, Linear Park was well and will showcase local merchants and artists. There will be activities along a boardwalk that will eventually run all the way to the end of Palm Beach, making it the longest of its kind in the Caribbean.

Slide into a submarine and descend along coral-crusted walls to see the magnificence of the ocean depths. Marvel at a landscape rugged and wild with wind-bent Divi Divi trees, kilometres of powder-white beaches and sandy deserts where cacti thrive under a luminescent sun. And don’t miss the Natural Bridge, formed by waves crashing on coral rock. Aruba is an island blessed.

- Salt Cave – Walls are covered in Himalayan salt bricks, allowing guests to inhale Himalayan salt-infused air, which releases negative ions into the air.

The Fitness Centre features different areas for cardio, strength, and functional training. Guests can train with high-end cardio equipment from the Technogym Artis Line, a unique collection designed to the highest standards to maximise the efficiency of a workout and optimise results. Among the many options, guests can elevate their indoor running experience and enjoy engaging content and workouts with Run Artis, or train in a fun and effective way on the elliptical Artis Synchro.
In the strength training area guests can work on their lower body with high-quality solutions such as the Artis Leg Press and Artis Leg Curl, or train their upper body with innovative products such as the Artis Chest Press and the Artis Shoulder Press.
For strength workout sessions, Explora Journeys also offers guests the Technogym Bench, the innovative, functional and strength training station with sleek design and enclosed tools that enables guests to perform over 200 exercise options, and fitness tools such as Urethane Dumbbells, which allow guests to be precise in their workouts and recruit more muscles more efficiently.
Located within the Fitness Centre, the Fitness Studio allows guests to take part in yoga classes with the Technogym training mats, which offer extra-large size and maximum comfort, or enjoy functional workouts with the Technogym Bench, Technogym Skill tools and the Technogym Case Kit, a practical and spacious bag with a QR code on the hangtag, that allows for direct access to a digital library of video exercises and guided routines focused on their needs.
Additionally, our Fitness Studio offers Pilates Reformers classes for improved balance through the strengthening of the core muscles.
On the outdoor deck, guests can train in the open air, with direct ocean views. The Open Air Fitness area provides guests with the latest fitness equipment such as:
- SKILLROW, the first outdoor rowing equipment designed to improve anaerobic power, aerobic capacity and neuromuscular abilities in one solution
- GROUP CYCLE BIKES, perfect to create an engaging cycling experience.
- TECHNOGYM CASE KIT
Guests can use Skillrow, Group Cycle bikes and also Technogym Case in the way they most prefer: they can choose to train individually, receive support from a qualified personal trainer, or participate in exciting and engaging fitness classes.

We don’t have a dress code onboard but we suggest an elegant resort casual style.
Please consider the following in our restaurants, and indoor bars and lounges:
- Swim wear and bathrobes are not allowed throughout the day in any of the restaurants and indoor bars and lounges.
- Shorts and sleeveless t-shirts are not allowed during dinner time (18:00 – late) in Anthology, Fil Rouge
- Baseball caps and sportswear are not allowed during dinner time (18:00 – late) in Anthology, Fil Rouge, Sakura, Marble & Co. Grill, Med Yacht Club.
Explora Journeys respects the needs and desires of all guests and we have considered carefully the subject of those who smoke and those who do not. In compliance with global standards, smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor locations. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the suites and the suite terraces.
Smoking will be only allowed in the following outside areas onboard:
- Deck 5: Starboard Side on the outdoor Crema Café Promenade
- Deck 11: Forward, Port Side, Cigar Lounge (Cigars only)
- Deck 12: Forward, Port Side, Cigar section of Helios Bar
- Deck 14: Aft, Starboard Side, section of Sky Bar on 14

There are accessible suites onboard Explora Journeys.
Any guests in need of special services during their journey, or needing to travel with medical apparatus, including wheelchairs, motorised scooters or oxygen therapy are asked to please notify us in writing prior to final payment becoming due.
Certain Destination Experiences are wheelchair-accessible and there will be an icon to highlight these experiences. Depending on what the guest’s requirements are, experiences may be subject to availability as wheelchair-accessible transport has to be pre-requested. It is recommended that guests advise their preferred Travel Advisor or an Explora Journeys Ambassador of their requirements at time of booking.
We offer a self-service guest laundry as well as a laundry service (charges apply).
There is a medical centre onboard equipped for first aid and minor conditions only. The medical centre is not equipped as a land-based hospital and the doctor is not a specialist.
Medical consultations onboard are fee-based therefore we strongly recommend that you have comprehensive travel health insurance covering medical treatment, repatriation costs and expenses.
Our adults-only areas onboard are the Whiskey bar within the Observation Lounge (where smoking will be allowed), and the Forward Pool area on deck 12. The use of the Fitness Centre and the Spa Facilities are reserved for guests aged 16 years and older. Following Public Health Authorities requirements, children in diapers, swim diapers, pull-ups, or who are not completely toilet trained are not allowed in the swimming pools and whirlpools.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in suites and public areas for unlimited web browsing, emails, social media, messengers, and voice and video calls. Please note that the Wi-Fi connection on board depends on the satellite positioning and, at times, can be unstable or discontinued depending on the weather conditions, navigation area, or other technical restrictions beyond our control.
You will be asked during the booking process to add any allergies, dietary restrictions and special requests. Please make sure to inform us prior to your journey about special dietary restrictions
Explora Journeys does not have any single use plastic onboard its ships and ashore.
We ban single-use plastic from our ships, also packaging of deliveries will be reduced to a minimum. Offering fresh and locally-sourced food gives us the possibility to be more respectful with the planet and the destinations we visit.
Additionally, we offer environmentally conscious Destination Experiences as well as recycling and refillable bottles onboard.
We are working with tour operators that offer sustainable experiences with no single-use-plastic also ashore. Our Destination Experiences are planned to put a spotlight on local talents, craftsmanship, culture, gastronomy and traditions.
Our advanced wastewater treatment systems onboard process wastewater to near tap water quality. We discharge our ballast water exclusively on land while we are in the port. We have adopted strict treatment regimes to remove threats of species transportation through ballast water.
An in-suite welcome bottle of champagne and a bottle of spirit of the guests’ choice upon arrival.
