Darwin is Australia’s most colorful, and exotic, capital city. Surrounded on three sides by the turquoise waters of the Timor Sea, the streets are lined with tropical flowers and trees. Warm and dry in winter, hot and steamy in summer, it’s a relaxed and casual place, as well as a beguiling blend of tropical frontier outpost and Outback hardiness. Thanks to its close proximity to Southeast Asia and its multicultural population it also seems more like Asia than the rest of Australia. Darwin is a city that has always had to fight for its survival. The seductiveness of contemporary Darwin lifestyles belies a history of failed attempts that date from 1824 when Europeans attempted to establish an enclave in this harsh, unyielding climate. The original 1869 settlement, called Palmerston, was built on a parcel of mangrove wetlands and scrub forest that had changed little in 15 million years. It was not until 1911, after it had already weathered the disastrous cyclones of 1878, 1882, and 1897, that the town was named after the scientist who had visited Australia’s shores aboard the Beagle in 1839. During World War II it was bombed more than 60 times, as the harbor full of warships was a prime target for the Japanese war planes. Then, on the night of Christmas Eve 1974, the city was almost completely destroyed by Cyclone Tracy, Australia’s greatest natural disaster. It’s a tribute to those who stayed and to those who have come to live here after Tracy that the rebuilt city now thrives as an administrative and commercial center for northern Australia. Old Darwin has been replaced by something of an edifice complex—such buildings as Parliament House and the Supreme Court all seem very grand for such a small city, especially one that prides itself on its casual, outdoor-centric lifestyle. Today Darwin is the best place from which to explore Australia’s Top End, with its wonders of Kakadu and the Kimberley region.

The Kei islands are home to some of the most beautiful, pristine and untouched beaches in the world. They are the most accessible islands of southern Maluku and offer visitors a tranquil escape from the bustling nature of Darwin. Referred to as the hidden gems of Indonesia, Kei Islands are relatively unknown and therefore make for the perfect place to enjoy a day of swimming and snorkelling on an idyllic uninhabited picture postcard tropical island.

There are thousands of beaches in Indonesia yet the ones you’ll see today might be the country’s most beautiful. The Kai Islands are part of the Maluku Province and are made entirely of white sand and coral. Powdery soft beaches are lapped by the strikingly blue waters of the Banda Sea and fringed with lush rows of palm trees. Despite their jaw-dropping beauty, these islands remain far off the tourist trail, and you’ll be unlikely to see another visitor. Scenic Discovery: Subject to weather conditions and local permits, today may offer time to enjoy the beach, take a refreshing swim, or snorkel in the surrounding waters alongside your Discovery Team.
In 2008, the Kaimana Regency declared a 6000 square kilometer (over 2,300 square mile) Marine Protected Area around the waters of Triton Bay. Conservation International maintains an office in Kaimana and a field station out in Triton Bay where visiting scientists can do their work studying the staggering marine biodiversity of the reserve. It is truly second to none, and the area offers everything from the tiniest pygmy seahorses, to large and graceful whale sharks. Triton Bay is known for its beautiful soft coral gardens as well as nesting green turtles, and a population of coastal Bryde’s whales.

Triton Bay is a secluded and richly biodiverse corner of West Papua, renowned for its dramatic limestone karsts, sheltered bays, and thriving marine life. Beneath the surface, vibrant coral reefs support an abundance of tropical fish, with manta rays often seen gliding through these nutrient-rich waters. On land, dense rainforests echo with birdlife, whilst small coastal villages offer insight into traditional ways of life. Together, Triton Bay’s striking landscapes and cultural depth create a deeply rewarding and memorable experience.

Located north of Triton Bay, KitiKiti Waterfall is one of West Papua’s most dramatic natural features. Cascading directly into the sea, the waterfall is framed by dense tropical forest and dramatic coastal scenery. The cool, freshwaters create an inviting setting, whilst the surrounding reef system supports colourful marine life. This rare meeting of freshwater and ocean offers a peaceful and visually captivating experience in a truly remote environment.Tonight, explore more of the up to 10 all-inclusive on board culinary experiences, sampling fine French cuisine at Lumière+ or vibrant Asian fusion at Koko’s. One of the four largest islands of the group, known collectively as the Four Kings, Misool has a permanent population of around 5,000 scattered around a few villages. It is surrounded by one of the most remarkable reef systems left on earth and is one of the few places where biodiversity is improving, rather than declining. Misool also features intriguing ancient rock art and limestone caves. Your Scenic Discovery Yacht will spend the night in the calm waters off Misool Island. Enjoy a leisurely dinner and then head to the Sky Deck for breathtaking stargazing. Today sail into the otherworldly splendour of the Raja Ampat Islands. With more than 1,500 sparsely populated islands peppered across the ocean north of West Papua, this isolated archipelago is the world’s most biodiverse marine region; 75% of the world’s known coral species can be found here and the waters are home to more than 1,600 species of fish. Its remote location means Raja Ampat is largely untouched by mass tourism.Scenic Discovery: Weather and local approvals permitting, there may be an opportunity for a Zodiac wet landing to visit a local village, to witness traditional Raja Ampat drumming, meet community members and gain a glimpse into daily life in this island paradise.

Manokwari is a coastal town and the capital of West Papua, set between the Pacific Ocean and forested mountain ranges. It serves as a gateway to some of the region’s most important natural areas, including the Arfak Mountains and nearby rainforest reserves known for their exceptional biodiversity. These habitats support a wide variety of endemic species, including Birds-of-Paradise, tree kangaroos, and rare butterflies. Cenderawasih Bay is a vast marine reserve located along the northern coast of West Papua, near the Bird’s Head Peninsula. As Indonesia’s largest national marine park, it is recognised for its remarkable biodiversity and extensive coral reef systems. The bay is one of the few places in the world where whale sharks are known to gather regularly, often around traditional fishing platforms. Alongside these gentle giants, the surrounding waters support a rich variety of tropical fish, reef species, and marine habitats, making this an exceptional location for observing life beneath the surface.Meet new friends on the terrace of the Azure Bar & Café for a lazy lunch while you share stories. Alotau is the provincial capital of the Milne Bay Province located in the southeast bay of Papua New Guinea. The town and surrounding area has been an important staging ground during World War II and we will see remains and memorials dating back or referring to the war. On a tour of the town, visitors will appreciate lovely vistas of the bay and experience the markets, which are frequented not only by locals, but also by islanders selling their products or looking for produce to take back into Milne Bay. Alotau is an important port facility for the islands and attracts many vendors of handicrafts from different islands.

Doini Island lies within Papua New Guinea’s Milne Bay Province, a region known for its calm waters, coral-rich seas, and scattered tropical islands. Fringed by quiet beaches and backed by lush vegetation, the island offers a peaceful setting shaped by both natural beauty and a sense of seclusion.Spend the day taking in the scenery, from the clear coastal waters to the island’s sandy shores, shaded groves, and gentle walking paths. As the day ends, return to Scenic Eclipse II for a relaxed dinner on board, surrounded by the stillness of this remote corner of the South Pacific.
Tourism is the lifeblood of Cairns (pronounced Caans). The city makes a good base for exploring the wild top half of Queensland, and tens of thousands of international travelers use it as a jumping-off point for activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling trips to the Barrier Reef, as well as boating, fishing, parasailing, scenic flights, and rain-forest treks.It’s a tough environment, with intense heat and fierce wildlife. Along with wallabies and grey kangaroos in the savannah and tree kangaroos in the rain forest, you’ll find stealthy saltwater crocodiles, venomous snakes, and jellyfish so deadly they put the region’s stunning beaches off- limits to swimmers for nearly half the year. Yet despite this formidable setting, Cairns and tropical North Queensland are far from intimidating places. Smoking Policy
Scenic Eclipse and Scenic Eclipse II are non-smoking vessels in all public areas. There is a designated outside smoking area on Deck 6 for guests. All suites, including suite verandah’s and terraces are non-smoking.

Scenic accommodates special dietary requirements to the best of our ability across our river cruises, ocean voyages and land journeys where applicable. If you have special dietary requests, please notify us at the time of booking and inform your Cruise Director when you arrive.

Laundry
Scenic Eclipse II is equipped with a free self-service laundry located on Deck 3. It features washing machines, dryers, irons and ironing boards and is available 24 hours.
Wi-Fi
Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available on board some of our vessels. Please be aware that internet access may be limited or non-existent at certain times due to high demand from other users, or proximity to telecommunication services. We cannot guarantee that you will have full Wi-Fi coverage in your suite.
Dress Code
When you are relaxing on board, the dress code is smart casual and comfortable. Do not forget your swimsuits and exercise attire for the heated pools and plunge pools, the wellness areas and the gym, yoga and Pilates studio.
For evenings, while there are no formal nights, the recommended on board dress code is elegant casual for most restaurants. Suggested attire for women includes a dress, skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse, for men, trousers / pants and a collared shirt. A tie and jacket are optional, but not required.
Language
The official language spoken on board is English. All officers, staff and crew as well as local guides and regional specialists speak fluent English. All announcements and lectures will be presented in English.
Children
Luxury expedition style cruising is not recommended for children under 12. Guests under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult and must share their accommodation with an adult. No children programs or babysitting services are available on board.
Medical Facilities
For your peace of mind, Scenic Eclipse is equipped with a medical centre offering primary care, staffed at all times by an on call doctor. You must advise us prior to finalising your booking of any pre-existing medical conditions that might increase your risk of requiring medical attention, affecting the normal conduct of the cruise and / or the enjoyment of other cruise guests.
It is important to note, however, that there are no hospitals or doctors available in polar and remote regions, and emergency evacuation is extremely difficult and expensive.
Cruising conditions can be unpredictable and rough waters may be encountered anytime. If you suffer from seasickness, please consult your Medical Practitioner before your cruise and always carry the recommended preventative medications. Our resident medical team can assist you with additional medication and services if required, with any relevant payments charged to your on board account.
Am I allowed to take prescription medication?
Yes, you are allowed to carry whatever prescription medication you require, and we’d recommend packing an ample supply that covers the duration of your cruise or tour. Due to strict drug laws in certain countries, make sure medication is carried in its original packaging with the prescription label clearly marked. When travelling through airports or border crossings, we’d recommend that you keep medication in your hand luggage ready for inspection.

Visitor Policy
In selected ports on request, visitors may be allowed on board. Visitation is not permitted on embarkation and disembarkation day. A visitor form is to be completed prior to the cruise. The guests will be informed once approved. Visitors will receive a visitor pass at ship’s gangway after they provide photo identification. Visitors will need to be accompanied at all times.

Travel Information
Can Scenic arrange my passport and visas?
Scenic cannot arrange a passport or visas on your behalf, but our experienced Reservations Team may be able to advise you on the type of visas and documentation you need when visiting certain countries.
Your passport must be valid for six months beyond the conclusion of your trip. Please check your passport before departure and give yourself time to apply for a new one if this is required. Also, if the nationality on your passport differs from the country in which you currently reside, contact your local consulate to ensure you have the right documents for travel. Your holiday may be disrupted if you cannot provide valid documents at airports and border crossings.
Can Scenic organise my travel insurance?
No, Scenic is unable to provide travel insurance. We’d recommend that you arrange insurance cover that best suits you and covers you in the event of unforeseen circumstances. It’s also a good idea to take any documents relating to your insurance with you when you travel.

Accessibility
What fitness levels do cruises/tours require?
Due to the amount of excursions available during a Scenic cruise or tour, a reasonable level of fitness is required to take full advantage of each itinerary. You must be physically able and self-sufficient to undertake the cruise or tour you have booked, and/or travel with a companion who is able to provide any assistance you may require during your holiday. Some of the all-inclusive excursions offered require a reasonable level of fitness to complete, and you may be required to climb ramps and/or stairs.
Please also note that not all Scenic ships have a lift. Here is a list of the ships which have an elevator and their restrictions:
– Scenic Space-Ships in Europe have a lift which services the Diamond Deck and Sapphire Deck.
– Scenic Spirit has a lift which services all decks between the Diamond Deck and Gem Deck.
I’m pregnant – can I still travel on a river cruise, ocean voyage or land journey?
The majority of cruise operators recommend that pregnant women should not travel after the 28-week period. If you do decide to travel, you may be asked to provide a doctor’s certificate clarifying you’re fit to travel.
Do the ships provide mobility-wheelchair access?
We welcome passengers with medical conditions or disabilities and can provide mobility provisions when notified in writing of a person’s needs before boarding. However, please be aware that there may be limitations on board and during excursions. Some of our ships do not have elevators, and where there is an elevator on board it may not access all decks. While collapsible wheelchairs are permitted on board under appropriate circumstances, you must be able to climb up and down stairs on coaches, and some excursions may require you to negotiate cobblestones or climb steps.
In addition, standard suites and bathrooms have significant thresholds and cabin doors which limit access, meaning they may not be wide enough to allow access to many wheelchairs. Please speak to a member of our team about your requirements prior to booking so that we can offer information on mobility and access.
