We’ve also partnered with EarthEcho International, a nonprofit organisation founded by Philippe Cousteau. Jr., to introduce a comprehensive and customised youth program designed to empower a new generation of environmental advocates. The program is designed to inspire young people to act now for a sustainable future. Together, we’re engaging with youth and the local community to support the protection and enhancement of the treasured ecosystems of the Galapagos Islands, and we’ll explore opportunities to expand our partnership to other regions of the world.
Please note the ability to accommodate guests with special needs aboard the vessels in the Galapagos Islands is limited. The ships do not have elevators or accessible staterooms. Also, there is very little wheelchair accessibility on the Galapagos Islands, and service animals are not permitted in the Galapagos National Park. During a Galapagos journey, guests will need to ascend or descend steps into a motor coach, use stairs, walk and/or climb over uneven ground for extended distances and get on and off inflatable Zodiac tenders. In addition, the land portion of these vacations, including Quito and Galapagos in Ecuador, as well as Lima, Cuzco and Machu Picchu in Peru are not suited to persons who are wheelchair users. Celebrity welcomes guests with disabilities and special needs, and we will provide reasonable and appropriate assistance. Guests requiring assistance should consider their specific needs when making a Galapagos vacation decision. While we do not require information about the extent of your specific situation, the more information you can share with us about your specific needs, the better we are able to assist you. We encourage you to notify us of your needs at time of booking but no later than 30 days prior to sailing.
All guests must ensure they are medically fit for travel. As such, we remind you to check with your physician at least 4 to 6 weeks before sailing to make sure you are up to date with any required immunisations or vaccines you may need to ensure you will be permitted to visit each of the exciting destinations and tours on your itinerary. At this time, no inoculations are required for US, Canadian, and UK citizens. For further information, you may contact the Centres for Disease Control & Prevention’s Traveler’s Health website at www.cdc.gov/travel/ or toll-free at 800-232-4636.
Please be advised that Celebrity Cruises∘ makes every effort to accommodate guest’s dietary requirements wherever possible. Please see the full guide for more information.
Smoking is permitted only on the ship’s outer decks in designated smoking areas. Smoking is not permitted on the Zodiac rafts or other transport vessels.
Lighting
We’re replacing higher wattage halogen and incandescent light bulbs with longer lasting fluorescent and Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights throughout∘ our fleet. Fluorescent and LED bulbs require 80% less energy, generate 50% less heat, reduce energy consumption, last much longer and contribute to more efficient air conditioning due to the cooler bulbs.
Propulsion and Hull Design
A new approach to hull design and propulsion systems, resulted in significant energy savings. Ships equipped with Common Rail Diesel Engines reduce energy consumption and NOX emissions at all engine loads.
Heating, Ventilation, and AC
Our ships are equipped with the latest and most efficient air-conditioning equipment commercially available. Coupled with improvements in system design and automation.
Operation Conservation Measures
Our environmental policies guide both our shipboard and shoreside employees in beneficial environmental practices. Our crewmembers are an integral part of our energy-conservation efforts. Staff and guests are advised to turn off lights, water and appliances when not needed, adjust temperature∘ thermostats to comfortable levels when no one is present and using towels and bed linens more than once before laundering.
Fresh Water Consumption
We ask our crewmembers and guests to help us conserve water whenever possible. To help reduce the energy needed to produce fresh water, we have installed water-reduction technology∘ and appliances throughout our fleet to reduce the use of water-producing equipment that consumes fuel or electricity. These features include sink aerators, showerheads, reduced-flow dishwashers and low-consumption laundry equipment.
Advanced Wastewater Purification
We Installed Advanced Wastewater Purification∘ (AWP) systems throughout the fleet. These technologically advanced systems clean the wastewater generated onboard our ships to create clean water that exceeds ship wastewater discharge standards throughout the world.
Renewable Energy Sources
Our ships are equipped with solar power technology. The panels and the clean power they produce can help reduce the consumption of energy∘ derived from fossil fuels. 500m2 of solar panels produce enough electricity to power a ship’s guest elevators or approximately 7,000 LED lights.
High-Efficiency Appliances
We have installed high-efficiency appliances throughout the ship in order to minimize their impact on climate change and reduce our energy load. Every type of appliance onboard our ships is being evaluated for efficiency, including TV’s, coffeemakers, ice makers, ovens and dishwashers.
Energy-Efficient Windows
Across the fleet we have applied window films that are specially glazed to prevent solar heat from penetrating, thereby reducing the amount of air conditioning needed to cool the ship, thereby saving energy.
Hull Coatings
We apply new silicone paints on the hull, which are innovative and environmentally safe coatings that increase the smoothness of our ships’ hull. By creating a smoother hull, we can reduce the amount of energy needed to travel through water.
As the first ship ever designed for a destination, we wanted to ensure that Celebrity Flora was built with every state-of-the-art option and latest technology to make her one of the most eco-friendly and environmentally safe ships sailing on the planet. From a Dynamic Positioning System that enables the ship to stay on station without the use of anchors (to help protect the seas) to the solar panels on Deck 7 (it’s the first ship of this size to have them) that supplements the ship’s electricity supply and reduces emissions. Celebrity Flora even uses reverse osmosis equipment to process sea water into fresh water that supplies 100% of the ship’s needs.
Godmother: Yolanda Kakabadse
With our passionate focus on environmentalism in the Galapagos Islands, our choice for Celebrity Flora’s Godmother was an easy one to make—Yolanda Kakabadse. She’s a prominent environmental leader and a champion of sustainable development and biodiversity preservation. Yolanda is a former Minister of Environment for the Republic of Ecuador and a former president of both the International Union for Conservation of Nature and World Wildlife Fund International. She has dedicated her career to leaving the world a better place, which is exactly why she’s the perfect fit.
Celebrity Flora will be the first vessel in the Galapagos to be equipped with cutting-edge oceanographic equipment, known as Oceanscope. The program builds on our long relationship with University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science that will benefit from Celebrity Flora’s consistent itinerary to create a perfect way for scientists to gather and measure data on ocean circulation dynamics, surface temperatures, and information critical to the prediction of El Niño and La Niña. All findings will be visible for guests to view on board and become open source data, globally accessible, a first for scientists and anyone with a passion for information.
Yes, complimentary high speed Wi-Fi is available throughout Celebrity Flora & Celebrity Xpedition.
Celebrity Cruises® guests are expected to be responsible for their actions at all times, including during transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, while onboard, at our ports of call, during shore excursions and at our private destinations. Consuming alcohol to excess impairs one’s judgment and reduces one’s ability to recognise and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Guests who choose to consume alcohol must do so responsibly. The ship’s staff may refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to any guest who does not consume alcohol responsibly, including those who have purchased an all-inclusive beverage package. Ship’s personnel may request verification of a guest’s age to verify they are of age to consume alcohol pursuant to this policy. Any guest that violates this alcohol policy will be considered for disciplinary action pursuant to the “Consequences Section” of this Guest Conduct Policy, and may lose their privileges to use areas or facilities of the ship.
Guests are not permitted to bring alcoholic beverages onboard; with the exception of embarkation day when each guests are permitted to bring onboard with them up to two (2) bottles of wine (which are subject to a corkage fee) per guest. A corkage fee does not apply to guests with the Classic Beverage Package or Premium Beverage Package. Security may inspect containers (including water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, canteens, etc.) at any time and will dispose of alcohol concealed in such containers. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased from onboard shops or in ports of call (which must be presented to security upon re-boarding), will be secured by ship’s personnel. Alcohol secured by ship’s personnel will be returned to guests just prior to the conclusion of their cruise vacation. Guests who are under the permitted drinking age will not have alcohol returned to them.
The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Celebrity Cruises® ships sailing from North America is 21. The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Celebrity Cruises® ships sailing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand is 18. Guests may contact Guest Relations or refer to Celebrity Today for specific minimum drinking age information on their cruise vacation.
For purposes of complying with the minimum drinking age requirements, a guest’s age is established upon boarding at the beginning of the cruise vacation. If a guest celebrates their birthday during the cruise vacation, and thereby becomes of age to consume alcohol, the guest may thereafter ask the Guest Relations Manager to modify ship’s records to permit their consumption of alcohol during the remainder of the vacation. The guest will be required to appear at Guest Relations to present a valid government-issued form of identification to permit verification of their age.
No guest under age 18 may possess or consume alcohol at any time while onboard. No guest under age 21 may possess or consume alcohol at our private destinations. Any guest who goes ashore and consumes alcohol (whether under the supervision of a parent/guardian or not, is responsible for ensuring they consume responsibly and retain their ability to recognise and avoid potentially dangerous situations when they return to the ship. Parents/guardians are reminded they are responsible for the actions of their child/young adult at all times while on a Celebrity Cruises® cruise vacation.
Guests who violate any alcohol policy, including but not limited to underage drinking; providing alcohol to minors or young adults; possessing, concealing or attempting to conceal alcoholic items in their luggage, when boarding or while onboard; engaging in alcohol drinking games; or failing to consume alcohol responsibly, will be considered for discipline under the provisions of this policy.
Celebrity Flora and the Galapagos Islands offer memorable experiences for families. We recommend the minimum age to travel to the Galapagos Islands is 8 years old.
