Galapagos Cruises

Galapagos Cruises

Each So Unique, No Visit is the Same

Located 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, this archipelago of unspoiled, isolated islands will welcome you with its rugged charms and evolutionary wonders. Consisting of 19 islands and 42 islets that all rose from the sea as the product of volcanic eruptions, these islands are between 3 million and 4 million years old.

Completely oceanic—meaning they’ve never been connected to the mainland—the Galapagos Islands are truly a world apart. Settlers have carved out their lives on the lava rocks, pirates have profited, and scientists have explored. The history of the Galapagos is rich and diverse, with tales of basic survival and extraordinary discovery. For almost any modern adventurer, a journey through time to the Galapagos is a dream vacation.

Balance Exploration With Relaxation
A few million years ago, volcanos erupted, creating these moonscapes where lumbering tortoises, comical birds, and other wildlife evolved in isolation. Today, you can experience this wondrous environment on shore excursions led by naturalists—two each day—as active or leisurely as you choose. Climb the hills to find colonies of red-footed boobies, hike the coast to spot colourful Sally Lightfoot crabs, watch the sea lions go surfing, or just relax and enjoy the sandy beaches and deck-side bars.

Certified Experts Lead the Way
Sailings include two shore excursions per day, each the adventure of a lifetime. Onboard naturalists, certified by Galapagos National Park, lead small groups of no more than 12 explorers. Activities are curated by our highly trained team of experts and each night we brief you on upcoming adventures.

Three Great Reasons to Visit The Galapagos
Once in a lifetime, you can walk in the footsteps of Darwin, getting closer to the natural world than you ever have or ever will, coming home with a radically new understanding of the planet. With us, you’ll encounter flora found nowhere else, come face to face with fauna that has not learned to fear humans, and hike moonscapes that barely resemble Earth.

The Flora
While the animals of the Galapagos Islands get the glory, the evolution and adaptation of plant life here is equally important. Check out the beautiful lava Cactus, which only grows on barren lava fields. The Prickly Pear Cactus found only on these islands. And, the magnificent Scalesia, which grows up to sixty feet tall.

The Fauna
Since the animals here don’t fear humans, you can truly get up close and personal, looking into the eyes of a Galapagos marine iguana, and walking among penguins – the only penguin species north of the equator. Here, you’ll discover creatures whose very existence forms the basis for one of the most famous scientific theories in history.

The Adventure
Nature lovers flock to this exotic terrain born of fire. Once, volcanos spat and lava flowed, creating an archipelago of 19 islands with a marine reserve that serve as a living museum of evolution. Extreme isolation and the convergence of three ocean currents developed the most unusual wildlife.

Novurania Yacht Tenders

Novurania Yacht Tenders

Celebrity Flora℠ custom-built Novurania tenders will transport you in comfort and style. They feature stairs with a metal railing that fits flush against the open aft creating a seamless ship to shore transportation system that makes it even easier to go exploring the islands—a first in the Galapagos. Each tender also features a hydraulic ramp that makes wet landings in the islands much more convenient—and less wet. It can also be used as a platform that makes getting on and off for snorkeling much easier. Other features not found on the standard tender include storage space for snorkel gear and interior seating. They also feature rubber grips on the sides for a comfortable place to hold on while you explore the islands.

EarthEcho

We’ve partnered with EarthEcho International, a nonprofit organisation founded by Philippe Cousteau. Jr., to introduce a comprehensive and customised youth program designed to empower a new generation of environmental advocates. The program is designed to inspire young people to act now for a sustainable future. Together, we’re engaging with youth and the local community to support the protection and enhancement of the treasured ecosystems of the Galapagos Islands, and we’ll explore opportunities to expand our partnership to other regions of the world.

Disabled Facilities

Disabled Facilities

Please note the ability to accommodate guests with special needs aboard the vessels in the Galapagos Islands is limited. The ships do not have elevators or accessible staterooms. Also, there is very little wheelchair accessibility on the Galapagos Islands, and service animals are not permitted in the Galapagos National Park. During a Galapagos journey, guests will need to ascend or descend steps into a motor coach, use stairs, walk and/or climb over uneven ground for extended distances and get on and off inflatable Zodiac tenders. In addition, the land portion of these vacations, including Quito and Galapagos in Ecuador, as well as Lima, Cuzco and Machu Picchu in Peru are not suited to persons who are wheelchair users. Celebrity welcomes guests with disabilities and special needs, and we will provide reasonable and appropriate assistance. Guests requiring assistance should consider their specific needs when making a Galapagos vacation decision. While we do not require information about the extent of your specific situation, the more information you can share with us about your specific needs, the better we are able to assist you. We encourage you to notify us of your needs at time of booking but no later than 30 days prior to sailing.

Healthy Oceans Are Good for the Environment, Our Guests, and Our Business.

That’s why we aspire to achieve the highest possible standards of environmental and community stewardship.

Because we strive to provide you the best vacation possible, Celebrity Cruises® cares about making positive changes in the lives of our guests and employees,

sustaining the environment, and making the world a better place.

Our Next Edge-Series Ship Brings New Flex Fuel Engine to the Industry

When we introduce the fifth ship in our revolutionary Edge Series, it will feature the collaborative efforts of its parent company Royal Caribbean Group, technology group Wärtsilä and shipyard Chantiers de L’Atlantique (CdA) to advance the use of alternative fuels for the cruise industry. The ship continues the innovation that debuted with the Edge Series but will also be equipped with a new engine model, along with storage and delivery systems, that will give unmatched fuel flexibility, with the ability to use three types of fuel, including methanol.

Our Commitments – Our sustainability goals address key issues important to our business, including emissions reduction, waste, water and sustainable sourcing.

World Wildlife Fund Partnership – Our partnership with World Wildlife Fund is taking our dedication to ocean conservation to new heights.

Sustainable Tourism – We’re making it possible for guests to have transformative travel experiences well into the future by helping the destinations we visit continue to thrive.

Royal Caribbean Group Blue Green Promise

We celebrate the seven seas by announcing our Blue Green Promise℠. Thirty years ago, we launched our first environmental protection initiative, Save the Waves, and since then we’ve continued our efforts to protect one of our most precious natural resources — our oceans. Our Blue Green Promise is our renewed commitment to support resilient and sustainable ocean communities worldwide — a promise we will work to live up to every day.

Destination Net Zero

Destination Net Zero is our comprehensive vision for how we will achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We will use every tool at our disposal, including industry-leading energy efficiency and innovative machine-learning technologies to advance our path and role in achieving net zero. As part of our commitment, we plan to introduce a net zero emissions cruise ship by 2035. Destination Net Zero builds on the progress we’ve already made and will include an industry-first pledge to the rigorous Science Based Targets initiative.

Plastic Straw Free since 2019 – Celebrity Cruises eliminated plastic straws fleetwide, as part of a comprehensive plastic elimination program. Since 2019, we only offer paper straws as opposed to plastic.

Save the Waves

In everything we do, Celebrity Cruises is ever conscious of our special responsibility to protect our marine ecosystems. Protecting the world’s seas and the rich marine life they support is a way of life, and a way of doing business, for Celebrity Cruises. This commitment is the foundation of Save the Waves, our comprehensive environmental protection program established by our parent company in 1992.

Save the Waves is the foundation of our environmental initiatives. It began in 1992 and evolved from a recycling program to a company-wide philosophy. It has become an integral part of each crew member’s job and is the backbone of daily operations.

Go Green – Go Green is the latest addition to our existing Save the Waves program. Our new housekeeping initiative allows you to earn rewards while reducing your footprint. Opt-in for reduced housekeeping services to conserve energy and resource consumption. You’ll still experience the highest standards of cleanliness, plus the added flexibility of choosing your preferred time of service -all while traveling more responsibly.

Community Outreach & Achievement

We proudly sail some of the most environmentally-friendly ships, ensuring the beautiful places we visit stay that way.

Keeping our oceans clean doesn’t just make good business sense. It’s critical to the future of our planet. And you don’t have to look far to find examples of our efforts on our ships.

Galapagos Stewardship – Aboard the Celebrity Celebrity Flora®, we’ve planned our entire Celebrity Galapagos experience in conjunction with the Galapagos National Park. This journey follows strict environmental guidelines, and our naturalist guides are certified by the Galapagos National Park. We’ve also established the Galapagos Fund, an onboard conservation program that gives guests an opportunity to participate in the ongoing conservation of the islands. The Program draws on guest donations, totalling approximately $150,000 annually, which is matched by Celebrity with cruise credits. Donations to this fund are used exclusively to benefit charitable organisations in the Galapagos Islands. We invite you to read more about our environmental stewardship efforts below.

Sustainability Report

Explore our commitment to maintaining healthy oceans and pristine ecosystems as we sail around the world through our annual Sustainability Report. The report provides a comprehensive update on our sustainability and ESG efforts from ship to shore.

Celebrity Cruises, along with our parent company Royal Caribbean Group, is committed to the environments and communities where we operate.

It is our responsibility to help protect and preserve the oceans and coastal communities that bring our guests so much delight. We are also committed to helping in the communities that our employees and their families call home. Healthy oceans mean that millions of people have access to food, oxygen, transportation, and – in our case – the joy of cruising into the horizon.

Eco-Friendly Tech

Eco-Friendly Tech

We not only offer the most premium vacations in the Galapagos, but we do it with the smallest footprint we can make. The Galapagos Islands are one of the most unique archipelagos in the world, and our passionate focus on the importance of the environment is ongoing. In fact, in the thirteen years we’ve been sailing in the Galapagos Islands, we practice the highest levels of environmental stewardship. We’ve done so much to leave the islands virtually untouched that Ecuador’s Secretary of Tourism holds Celebrity Cruises as the standard of excellence for reducing our carbon footprint.

So, as the first ship ever designed for a destination, we wanted to ensure that Celebrity Flora was built with every state-of-the-art option and latest technology to make her one of the most eco-friendly and environmentally safe ships sailing on the planet. From a Dynamic Positioning System that enables the ship to stay on station without the use of anchors (to help protect the seas) to the solar panels on Deck 7 (it’s the first ship of this size to have them) that supplements the ship’s electricity supply and reduces emissions. Celebrity Flora even uses reverse osmosis equipment to process sea water into fresh water that supplies 100% of the ship’s needs.

Godmother: Yolanda Kakabadse

With our passionate focus on environmentalism in the Galapagos Islands, our choice for Celebrity Flora’s Godmother was an easy one to make—Yolanda Kakabadse. She’s a prominent environmental leader and a champion of sustainable development and biodiversity preservation. Yolanda is a former Minister of Environment for the Republic of Ecuador and a former president of both the International Union for Conservation of Nature and World Wildlife Fund International. She has dedicated her career to leaving the world a better place, which is exactly why she’s the perfect fit.

Celebrity Flora will be the first vessel in the Galapagos to be equipped with cutting-edge oceanographic equipment, known as Oceanscope. The program builds on our long relationship with University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science that will benefit from Celebrity Flora’s consistent itinerary to create a perfect way for scientists to gather and measure data on ocean circulation dynamics, surface temperatures, and information critical to the prediction of El Niño and La Niña. All findings will be visible for guests to view on board and become open source data, globally accessible, a first for scientists and anyone with a passion for information.

Alcohol Policy

Alcohol Policy

Consuming alcohol to excess impairs one’s judgment and reduces one’s ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Guests who choose to consume alcohol must do so responsibly. The ship’s staff may refuse to serve alcoholic beverages in their sole discretion to any guest who does not consume alcohol responsibly. Ship’s personnel may request verification of a guest’s age to verify they are of age to consume alcohol pursuant to this Policy. Adult guests are prohibited from providing alcohol to minors or young adults. All drinking games are strictly prohibited.

The minimum age for a guest to drink or possess alcoholic beverages on ships sailing from North America, the United Arab Emirates, or at any of our private destinations, is 21. The minimum age for a guest to drink or possess alcoholic beverages on ships sailing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand is 18. In all other cases, the drinking age of the home port shall control our determination of a legal drinking age.

In certain circumstances where local laws permit or require it, Royal Caribbean Group may modify this policy which may also require a parent or guardian’s request or authorization. Guests may contact Guest Services or refer to the cruise information in their stateroom for minimum drinking age information specific to their cruise vacation. For purposes of complying with the minimum age to drink or possess alcoholic beverages, a guest’s age is established at the beginning of the cruise vacation. If a guest celebrates his or her birthday during the cruise vacation, and thereby becomes of age to consume alcohol, the guest may thereafter ask the Guest Services Manager to modify the ship’s records to permit their consumption of alcohol during the remainder of the vacation. The guest will be required to appear at Guest Services to present a valid government-issued form of identification to permit verification of their age.

Unless otherwise permitted by our security personnel or crew, guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard; with the exception of embarkation day when each guest who is of drinking age will be permitted to bring onboard with them one (1) sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne. Boxed wine and other containers are prohibited. Security personnel may inspect containers (including water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, canteens, etc.) at any time and will dispose of alcohol concealed in such containers. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased from onboard shops or in ports of call must be presented to security upon re-boarding and will be secured by ship’s personnel. Alcohol secured by ship’s personnel will be returned to guests just prior to the conclusion of their cruise vacation. Guests who are under the permitted drinking age will not have alcohol returned to them.

Any guest who goes ashore and consumes alcohol (whether under the supervision of a parent/guardian or not) is responsible for ensuring they consume responsibly and retain the ability to recognise and avoid potentially dangerous situations when they return to the ship. Parents/guardians are reminded they are responsible for the actions of their minor and young adult children at all times while on a Royal Caribbean Group cruise vacation.

Packing Tips

Packing Tips

Daytime and Shore Excursions:

  • Neutral-coloured clothing is advised due to possible presence of insects.
  • Lightweight rain jacket or windbreaker.
  • A small backpack to carry water and other essentials.
  • A hat, sunglasses, sunblock, and insect repellent.
  • A re-sealable plastic bag to prevent water damage to cameras and other items of that nature.
  • If you bring a digital camera, make sure to pack plenty of memory cards.
  • The weather in these ports of call can be unpredictable, so we recommend layers. During the warmer months (February through June) it can be very hot on shore excursions.
  • Lightweight shorts and pants as well as both long-and short-sleeve shirts.
  • A jacket or sweatshirt will come in handy for cooler days and evenings.
  • Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or lightweight hiking boots, thick socks, swimsuit, and waterproof sandals or wet/dry water shoes for the beach and wet landings. Some of the island trails require walking on rocks, so be sure to have support and good tread on walking shoes.

Evening:

  • As you pack evening clothes, remember that there is no need for formal attire aboard any of our Celebrity Galapagos vessels.
  • For women, we recommend resort casual attire (pants, skirts or even casual dresses).
  • For men, we recommend resort casual attire (comfortable shirts and pants).

Items Not Allowed Onboard:

  • To protect the destinations we visit, we recommend avoiding sunscreens containing:
  • Petrolatum (aka mineral oil) – takes a long time to biodegrade and is harmful or even fatal to local wildlife.
  • Titanium Dioxide – does not biodegrade and is harmful to all sea life.
  • Oxybenzone, octocrylene, and octinoxate are banned from use in the Galapagos, as they cause damage to reef systems.

Leaving the World a Better Place

Leaving the World a Better Place

In the spirit of continuous improvement and innovation, and to ensure that we protect the islands and the pristine waters that surround them, Celebrity FloraSM was designed with every state-of-the-art option and latest technology—from a dynamic positioning system that enables the ship to stay on station without the use of anchors, helping protect the seas, to solar panels that supplement electricity, helping reduce emissions.

The result is one of the most eco-friendly and environmentally safe ships sailing the planet.

Certified Naturalists
Each guide on our Galapagos sailings will be on board during your entire vacation. They’re certified by the Galapagos National Park, recognizing their extensive educational training and commitment to maintaining the pristine nature of these islands. They are the real difference between an ordinary vacation and an extraordinary journey.

Environmental Stewardship
We don’t just love visiting here – we are passionate about preserving it. In fact, we’ve done so much to leave these islands virtually untouched that Ecuador’s Secretary of Tourism holds Celebrity Cruises® as the standard of excellence for reducing our carbon footprint.

Giving Back
We’re passionately focused on preserving the environment and partner with local organizations to create programs designed to improve the quality of life for the residents of the Galapagos Islands. Since 2014, working in collaboration with the Galapagos National Park and our Naturalists, our guests have planted more than 50,000 Scalesia Trees in support of the Scalesia Restoration Effort.

Making a Mark Means Leaving No Footprint

When you love traveling the planet as much as we do, being its steward is paramount. We are passionately focused on preserving our environment and are proud to partner with worldwide organizations that are equally as passionate. Together, we’ll be focused on the oceans, supporting work to conserve everything from coral reefs (home to 25% of all ocean life) to coastal wildlife. It just makes sense. We love everything about the oceans (which is why we vacation on them), and we want to do everything we can to conserve them for you and future generations.

Our Stewardship Programs

Low-Impact Travel
Your entire Galapagos experience practices the highest levels of environmental stewardship. For example, the chocolate placed on your pillow is from an local company that sources its cacao from small local producers.

The “Galapagos Tomato”
We’ve constructed greenhouses and provided additional support for local farmers’ associations through organic agriculture initiatives. One result of this process has been the creation of the hybrid “Galapagos tomato,” which is now served along with other organic, locally sourced produce on all our Galapagos sailings.

The “Daily Catch”
We’ve led the effort to create a fishing co-op that allows local fishermen to have a safe, clean processing plant in which to prepare, store, and more efficiently sell their catch. Today, we serve their deliciously fresh, locally sourced “daily catch” on board.

The Galapagos Fund
With the creation of The Galapagos Fund, we give our guests the opportunity to have a direct and lasting impact on the preservation of the rare and species-rich marine, wildlife, and plant ecosystem. Since 2006, Celebrity and our guests have contributed over $1.5 million to this fund and other projects in the islands.

Service Animals

Service Animals

Celebrity Cruises welcomes service dogs on all ships. * Please note we do not accept Emotional Support Dogs or Pets.

A service dog is defined as “any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability.” Service dogs are not considered pets.

Evidence that a dog is a service dog is helpful but not required (such as identification cards, other written documentation, presence of harnesses and/or tags or the credible verbal assurance of the person with a disability using the dog).

We provide 4 feet by 4 feet relief areas with cypress mulch to accommodate service dogs. Relief areas are provided on a shared basis with other service dogs onboard. Please note that The Lawn Club on Solstice Series ships is not designated as a relief area.

Please notify our Access Department at time of booking but no later than 30 days prior to sailing if a service dog relief area is needed.

Service dogs are permitted to accompany the person with a disability in all public areas, including dining venues. While in public areas, service dogs must be on a leash, harness or other restraining device. Due to health regulations, service dogs are not permitted in pools, whirlpools or spas.

Care and supervision of the service dog is the sole responsibility of the owner. The ships are not required to provide food or care for the dog.

Guests may bring a reasonable quantity of food and bowls for the dog onboard the ship at no additional charge. If refrigerated space is needed, notify our Access Department at time of booking but no later than 30 days prior to sailing.

If the guest chooses to disembark the ship at a port at which the service dog must remain onboard, the guest must make arrangements to ensure that the dog is cared for. Note that the ship’s staff is not required to care for the dog, nor can the dog be left in the stateroom unattended.

Guests are responsible for obtaining all required documents for the animal to depart the ship in ports of call and at final destination. For document requirements, visit:

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture
  • Hawaii Department of Agriculture
  • UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

A copy of these permits must be carried on the ship, and a copy left with Guest Relations Desk upon boarding the ship.

The documentation and immunization requirements are established by government authorities and not Celebrity Cruises. Please note requirements are subject to change without notice.

Guests are responsible for the behavior or damage caused by their service dog. A cleaning fee may be charged to the guest’s shipboard account.

If the service dog’s behavior creates a fundamental alteration or a direct threat to safety, the dog may be denied boarding or removed from the ship along with the owner at the guest’s expense. Examples include: growling, barking excessively, initiating unsolicited contact, biting other guests and/or crewmembers, failure to use designated relief areas, sitting on furniture, eating from the table, etc.

If you have an animal that does not meet the definition of a service animal (i.e. a dog trained to perform a task) but must accompany you to assist you with your disability, please contact our Access Department at least 60 days prior to sailing.

Weather

Weather

Located on the equator, the Galapagos Islands are subject to oceanic currents that influence temperatures on the archipelago. The weather is pleasant at any time of the year, making it a year-round cruise destination.

There are two seasons in the Galapagos:

The dry, or garua, season runs from July to December. “Garua” refers to the fog and mist that commonly hangs on the higher elevations during this season. The hot or wet season lasts from January through June, with March and April generally being the wettest months.
