Day 1: Valletta

Malta’s capital, the minicity of Valletta, has ornate palaces and museums protected by massive fortifications of honey-color limestone. Houses along the narrow streets have overhanging wooden balconies for people-watching from indoors. Generations ago they gave housebound women a window on the world of the street. The main entrance to town is through the City Gate (where all bus routes end), which leads onto Triq Repubblika (Republic Street), the spine of the grid-pattern city and the main shopping street. Triq Mercante (Merchant Street) parallels Repubblika to the east and is also good for strolling. From these two streets, cross streets descend toward the water; some are stepped. Valletta’s compactness makes it ideal to explore on foot. City Gate and the upper part of Valletta are experiencing vast redevelopment that includes a new Parliament Building and open-air performance venue. The complex, completed mid-2013, has numerous pedestrian detours in place along with building noise and dust. Before setting out along Republic Street, stop at the tourist information office on Merchant Street for maps and brochures.

Day programme:

Welcome to Valletta, Malta. Europe’s smallest capital was crowned the European Capital of Culture in 2018 for its brilliant mix of history and modernity. Amidst the cobblestone streets and ancient walls of this World Heritage-listed city, you’ll find a lively art, culinary and nightlife scene.Step on board your Discovery Yacht this afternoon and begin your Mediterranean journey with a warm greeting from the Captain and the crew. Meet your butler and settle into your spacious suite, then join your fellow guests at the Sky Bar to toast the start of an unforgettable Signature Yacht Cruise. Please book your flight to arrive into Valletta prior to 02:00 PM.

Day 2: Valletta

Malta’s capital, the minicity of Valletta, has ornate palaces and museums protected by massive fortifications of honey-color limestone. Houses along the narrow streets have overhanging wooden balconies for people-watching from indoors. Generations ago they gave housebound women a window on the world of the street. The main entrance to town is through the City Gate (where all bus routes end), which leads onto Triq Repubblika (Republic Street), the spine of the grid-pattern city and the main shopping street. The complex, completed mid-2013, has numerous pedestrian detours in place along with building noise and dust. Before setting out along Republic Street, stop at the tourist information office on Merchant Street for maps and brochures.

Day programme:

On your second day in Malta, embrace the chance to further explore the city's rich history, picturesque streets, and lively ambiance. Whether you visit iconic landmarks, discover hidden treasures tucked away in the old town, or simply unwind and take in the local charm, the day is yours to enjoy.Later, as Scenic Eclipse II sails out of Valletta’s historic Grand Harbour, take in the breathtaking views of the city’s golden limestone fortifications glowing in the evening light, an unforgettable farewell to this captivating destination.

Day 3: Trapani, Sicily

Trapani, the most important town on Sicily’s west coast, lies below the headland of Mount Erice and offers stunning views of the Egadi Islands on a clear day. Trapani’s Old District occupies a scimitarshaped promontory between the open sea on the north and the salt marshes to the south. The ancient industry of extracting salt from the marshes has recently been revived, and it is documented in the Museo delle Saline. In addition to the salt marshes,Trapani’s other interesting environs include the beautiful little hill town of Erice, the promontory of Capo San Vito stretching north beyond the splendid headland of Monte Cofano, the lovely island of Motya and the town of Marsala. Trips farther afield will take you to the magnificent site of Segesta or the Egadi Islands, reached by boat or hydrofoil from Trapani Port.

Day programme:

Trapani was founded as a port for the hilltop fortress town of Erice. As ‘the city between two seas’, it holds an important strategic position on a peninsula where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Tyrrenhian Sea. Walk the narrow streets filled with refined baroque buildings with their typical wrought-iron balconies, picturesque restaurants and antique shops. Visit the unfinished Temple of Segesta, built in 424BC by the native Elymi tribe. Be sure to try Cassatelle, delightful deep-fried pastries filled with a sweet mixture of ricotta cheese and chocolate drops, often enhanced with a hint of lemon.

Day 4: Cagliari

Known in Sardinia as Casteddu, the island’s capital has steep streets and impressive Italianate architecture, from modern to medieval. This city of nearly 160,000 people is characterized by a busy commercial center and waterfront with broad avenues and arched arcades, as well as by the typically narrow streets of the old hilltop citadel (called, simply, “Castello”). The Museo Archeologico makes a good starting point to a visit. The imposing Bastione di Saint Remy and Mercato di San Benedetto (one of the best fish markets in Italy) are both musts.

Day programme:

Cagliari is the capital of the island of Sardinia, nestled between the rolling hills and the sea. It’s home to one of the longest beaches in Italy, Poetta Beach, and Molentargius-Saline Regional Park, known for its bright pink flamingo colonies. Try unique culinary experiences, such as the traditional dishes malloreddus (Sardinian gnocchi) and porceddu (roast suckling pig).Back on board, step into the tranquil Senses Spa# on Deck 6 with its steam rooms, saunas, Salt Therapy Lounge and Vitality pool. Later, choose to dine in the comfort of your suite and have your evening nightcap brought by your butler.

Day 5: Mahón, Menorca

The capital of Menorca since 1721, Mahon has a impressive natural deep water harbour, which is one of the largest in the world. This, coupled with its strategic location, has made it a stronghold for many nations throughout history. Mahon has an abundance of historical buildings, the oldest being the Arch of Saint Roc which is all that remains of the wall that once encircled the whole town. The island was occupied by the British during the 18th century and Lord Nelson is thought to have stayed there. Indeed, San Antoni Mansion, located on the north side of the harbour, houses a collection of Nelson memorabilia. The legacy of colonial rule can be seen in the muted Georgian style of some of the buildings, but Mahon still boasts attractive examples of neo-Classical, Baroque and Romanesque architecture. With narrow streets to explore, pleasant shaded squares and welcoming pavement cafés, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Please be aware that most shops in town close for a siesta between 1330 and 1730.

Day programme:

This morning, enjoy the unforgettable experience of sailing into Mahón, where colonial-style houses, dramatic cliffs, and the charming old town create a spectacular panorama.Known for its British-style Georgian houses and medieval streets filled with palaces, churches and fortresses, Mahon is truly Vella i Bella (‘Old and Beautiful’). As the capital of the laid-back island of Menorca, the slow and gentle waves that lap on the shorelines set the rhythm of life. Experience history during a walk through the old town and gain insight into the great past of the town, a charismatic centre with a charm all its own.

Day 6: Ibiza

Hedonistic and historic, Eivissa (Ibiza, in Castilian) is a city jam-packed with cafés, nightspots, and trendy shops; looming over it are the massive stone walls of Dalt Vila —the medieval city declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999—and its Gothic cathedral. Squeezed between the north walls of the old city and the harbor is Sa Penya, a long labyrinth of stone-paved streets that offer some of the city’s best offbeat shopping, snacking, and exploring. The tourist information office on Vara de Rey has a useful map of walks through the old city.

Day programme:

Whilst Ibiza is known for its dazzling sunsets and thriving party scene, there is more to this island than meets the eye. Home to beautiful nature and superb beaches, you will also discover archaeological sites and small villages almost untouched by modern life. With a full day in port and a late departure, you’ll have time to sample everything this glamorous island has to offer then watch the sun dip below the horizon over a glass of sangria.

Day 7: Cartagena

A Mediterranean city and naval station located in the Region of Murcia, southeastern Spain, Cartagena’s sheltered bay has attracted sailors for centuries. The Carthaginians founded the city in 223BC and named it Cartago Nova; it later became a prosperous Roman colony, and a Byzantine trading centre. The city has been the main Spanish Mediterranean naval base since the reign of King Philip II, and is still surrounded by walls built during this period. Cartagena’s importance grew with the arrival of the Spanish Bourbons in the 18th century, when the Navidad Fortress was constructed to protect the harbour. In recent years, traces of the city’s fascinating past have been brought to light: a well-preserved Roman Theatre was discovered in 1988, and this has now been restored and opened to the public. During your free time, you may like to take a mini-cruise around Cartagena’s historic harbour: these operate several times a day, take approximately 40 minutes and do not need to be booked in advance. Full details will be available at the port.

Day programme:

A prized location with one of the world’s greatest natural harbours at its doorstep, Cartagena surprises and delights. Once inhabited by the Romans, Cartagena is recognised for the wealth of ancient sites in and around the city. Enjoy exploring this beautiful port today. As dusk falls, choose from up to 10 dining experiences on board. There’s Elements, where the menu ranges from Italian to steak and seafood, or channel the spirit of Asian Fusion at Koko’s. Journey to France at Lumiere), or dine in the privacy of your suite, choosing from a comprehensive 24-hour menu.

Day 8: Puerto Banús

Day programme:

Known for luxury cars, expensive shops and impressive yachts, Puerto Banús sets the standard in exclusivity – so you'll feel right at home on board your Discovery Yacht. This small town was developed in the 1970s to be the perfect combination of Andalusian culture, reflecting the fishing villages of the area as well as a stylish port town with sophistication and elegance.Set against a backdrop of immense mountains, wind your way through the town’s narrow streets lined with flower boxes. Experience one of the many glitzy bars this evening before another late departure.

Day 9: Tangier

Tangier can trace its origins back to the Phoenicians and ancient Greeks. It was named after Tinge, the mother of Hercules’ son, and its beginnings are embedded in mythology. It was subsequently a Roman province, and after Vandal and Byzantine influences, was occupied by the Arabs with Spain, Portugal, France and England also playing a part in the city’s history. With such a diverse past it is perhaps not surprising that Tangier is such an individual city. Overlooking the Straits of Gibraltar, the city lies on a bay between two promontories. With its old Kasbah, panoramic views, elegant buildings, squares and places of interest, there is much to discover in both the new and old parts of the city.

Day programme:

At the northwestern tip of the African continent lies Tangier, guarding the Strait of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. Known as the White City for its whitewashed houses lining winding streets, Tangier has been shaped by numerous cultures and civilisations over the centuries. The strong Spanish influence makes it a prime example of Spanish-Moorish architecture. Today, Tangier is a bustling modern port and the busiest in the Mediterranean. After departure, don’t miss the stunning passage through the Strait of Gibraltar and a view of the iconic Rock of Gibraltar.

Day 10: Portimão

Portimão is a major fishing port, and significant investment has been poured into transforming it into an attractive cruise port as well. The city itself is spacious and has several good shopping streets—though sadly many of the more traditional retailers have closed in the wake of the global economic crisis. There is also a lovely riverside area that just begs to be strolled (lots of the coastal cruises depart from here). Don’t leave without stopping for an alfresco lunch at the Doca da Sardinha (“sardine dock”) between the old bridge and the railway bridge. You can sit at one of many inexpensive establishments, eating charcoal-grilled sardines (a local specialty) accompanied by chewy fresh bread, simple salads, and local wine.

Day programme:

On the western Algarve, Portimão is a small port with a bustling historic centre. Enjoy the day exploring this once well-known fishing port, now transformed into a breath-taking promenade with shops selling traditional lace, ceramics, and leather goods, and fantastic restaurants. Portimão is much loved for the steep limestone cliffs that surround its sandy beach of Praia da Rocha. Architectural masterpieces from the 19th and 20th century blend with colourful contemporary structures.

Day 11: Lisbon

Set on seven hills on the banks of the River Tagus, Lisbon has been the capital of Portugal since the 13th century. It is a city famous for its majestic architecture, old wooden trams, Moorish features and more than twenty centuries of history. Following disastrous earthquakes in the 18th century, Lisbon was rebuilt by the Marques de Pombal who created an elegant city with wide boulevards and a great riverfront and square, Praça do Comércio. Today there are distinct modern and ancient sections, combining great shopping with culture and sightseeing in the Old Town, built on the city’s terraced hillsides. The distance between the ship and your tour vehicle may vary. This distance is not included in the excursion grades.

Day programme:

Welcome to Lisbon, the colourful capital of Portugal and a city with a proud history of seafaring. Your journey into wonder ends here after one last breakfast in ultra-luxury on board Scenic Eclipse. Farewell the crew and your new friends as you depart, taking away memories to last to a lifetime. Please book your flight to depart out of Lisbon after 12:00 PM.#Spa treatments at additional cost. +All drinks on board, including those stocked in your mini bar, are included, except for a very small number of rare, fine and vintage wines, Champagnes and spirits.  Specialty restaurants require a reservation, enquire on board. ^Flights on board our two helicopters and submersible experiences are at additional cost, subject to regulatory approval, availability, weight restrictions, medical approval and weather conditions.Helicopter not operational in Marocco. Medical Facilities

For your peace of mind, Scenic Eclipse is equipped with a medical centre offering primary care, staffed at all times by an on call doctor. You must advise us prior to finalising your booking of any pre-existing medical conditions that might increase your risk of requiring medical attention, affecting the normal conduct of the cruise and / or the enjoyment of other cruise guests.

It is important to note, however, that there are no hospitals or doctors available in polar and remote regions, and emergency evacuation is extremely difficult and expensive.

Cruising conditions can be unpredictable and rough waters may be encountered anytime.

Meet your butler and settle into your spacious suite, then join your fellow guests at the Sky Bar to toast the start of an unforgettable Signature Yacht Cruise.Scenic transfers are only available for flights arriving into Valletta prior to 02:00 PM.

Be sure to try Cassatelle, delightful deep-fried pastries filled with a sweet mixture of ricotta cheese and chocolate drops, often enhanced with a hint of lemon.Scenic Freechoice: Marsala, Salt Panes & Wine Tasting: Discover Sicily’s historic Salt Road, visiting the Ettore Infersa salt pans and their centuries-old windmill. Explore Marsala’s historic centre, shaped by diverse civilizations, before visiting a renowned winery. Learn about the region’s famous Marsala wine and enjoy a guided tasting amid picturesque coastal landscapes. Secrets of Sicilian Cuisine: Immerse yourself in Sicilian culinary traditions at Baglio Elena, a charming countryside cooking school near Trapani. Enjoy a welcome drink before learning to prepare authentic local dishes, including couscous, Busiate pasta with Trapani-style pesto and dessert. Savour your creations and receive a certificate of participation. Sagesta & Erice: Discover western Sicily’s ancient and medieval heritage with visits to Segesta and Erice. Admire Segesta’s remarkably preserved Doric temple and Greek Theatre, then explore Erice’s cobbled streets, historic churches, castle and panoramic views. Enjoy a traditional Sicilian lunch before returning to the port. Docked: 8:00 – 17:00

Later, choose to dine in the comfort of your suite and have your evening nightcap brought by your butler.Scenic Freechoice: Cagliari City Sightseeing & Archaeological Museum: Discover Cagliari’s rich heritage, exploring the medieval Castello district, National Archaeological Museum and magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria. Admire ancient fortifications and archaeological treasures while enjoying panoramic views of Santa Gilla and Molentargius lagoons, famous for their flamingos, and passing landmarks such as San Pancrazio Tower. Panoramic Drive & Cheese Tasting: Explore Cagliari by scenic drive, passing Via Roma, Poetto Beach, the Spanish Tower and flamingo-filled Molentargius marshland. Enjoy panoramic views from Monte Urpinu before visiting a traditional Sardinian farmhouse, where you’ll discover local cheese-making techniques and savour a tasting of handcrafted cheeses paired with regional wines. Docked: 8:00 – 13:30

Experience history during a walk through the old town and gain insight into the great past of the town, a charismatic centre with a charm all its own.Scenic Freechoice: Villages of Menorca & Caves: Discover Menorca’s natural and cultural highlights with panoramic views from Monte Toro, a drink at the legendary cliffside Xoroi Cave and a relaxing stroll through the picturesque, whitewashed village of Binibeca. Cultures of Menorca: This tour blends scenic views, local flavour and historic charm. Stroll through the peaceful fishing village of Fornells, taste Mahón cheese at a traditional farm and explore Mahón’s colonial streets and landmarks. Old Market of Mahon & Gin Experience: Uncover the flavours and heritage of Mahón on this guided walking tour through its historic old town. Visit the vibrant Mercat des Claustre for tastings of local cheeses, meats and wine, then tour the iconic Xoriguer gin distillery and sample its famed spirits. Kayaking in Menorca: Explore Menorca’s northern coastline by sea kayak, paddling through secluded coves, sandy beaches and dramatic rocky cliffs. Enjoy the island’s peaceful natural beauty and stop for snorkelling in a protected marine reserve, discovering pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters and local marine life accompanied by the sounds of nature. Docked: 9:00 – 18:00

After departure, don’t miss the stunning passage through the Strait of Gibraltar and a view of the iconic Rock of Gibraltar.Scenic Freechoice: Cap Spartel Hercules Caves & Kasbah: Travel along the Atlantic Coast to the Cap Spartel lighthouse and explore the enigmatic Hercules Caves and discover the historic Kasbah.   Tangier City Tour with American Legation: Discover the magic of Tangier as you explore the Kasbah, vibrant souks, and the historic American Legation. Visit a public oven, view a Hammam and enjoy free time, immersing in this city’s rich cultural heritage. Cooking Class at the Blue Door: Stroll through the lively Medina and learn Arabic phrases as you explore the souks. Then, enjoy a hands-on cooking experience at a local culinary school, preparing and savouring your own traditional Moroccan tagine. Docked: 8:00 – 17:00

Architectural masterpieces from the 19th and 20th century blend with colourful contemporary structures.Scenic Freechoice: Cabo St. Vicente & Sagres Fort: Visit Sagres Fortress and Cape St. Vincent for dramatic ocean views and maritime history, then explore the historic town of Lagos at your leisure. E-Biking to Praia da Rocha: Enjoy Portimão’s beautiful views on a biking tour to the beach Praia da Rocha.   Silves & Wine Tasting: Explore the historic village of Silves, the former Algarve capital, discover the iconic Silves Castle and indulge in a wine-tasting experience at Villa Alvor.   Docked or Anchored: 8:00 – 16:00

    Medical Facilities

If you suffer from seasickness, please consult your Medical Practitioner before your cruise and always carry the recommended preventative medications. Our resident medical team can assist you with additional medication and services if required, with any relevant payments charged to your on board account.

Am I allowed to take prescription medication?

Yes, you are allowed to carry whatever prescription medication you require, and we’d recommend packing an ample supply that covers the duration of your cruise or tour. Due to strict drug laws in certain countries, make sure medication is carried in its original packaging with the prescription label clearly marked. When travelling through airports or border crossings, we’d recommend that you keep medication in your hand luggage ready for inspection.

If your question has not been fully answered, please get in touch via our Contact Us page.

    Travel Information

Can Scenic arrange my passport and visas?

Scenic cannot arrange a passport or visas on your behalf, but our experienced Reservations Team may be able to advise you on the type of visas and documentation you need when visiting certain countries.

Your passport must be valid for six months beyond the conclusion of your trip. Please check your passport before departure and give yourself time to apply for a new one if this is required. Also, if the nationality on your passport differs from the country in which you currently reside, contact your local consulate to ensure you have the right documents for travel. Your holiday may be disrupted if you cannot provide valid documents at airports and border crossings.

Can Scenic organise my travel insurance?

No, Scenic is unable to provide travel insurance. We’d recommend that you arrange insurance cover that best suits you and covers you in the event of unforeseen circumstances. It’s also a good idea to take any documents relating to your insurance with you when you travel.

    Accessibility

What fitness levels do cruises/tours require?

Due to the amount of excursions available during a Scenic cruise or tour, a reasonable level of fitness is required to take full advantage of each itinerary. You must be physically able and self-sufficient to undertake the cruise or tour you have booked, and/or travel with a companion who is able to provide any assistance you may require during your holiday. Some of the all-inclusive excursions offered require a reasonable level of fitness to complete, and you may be required to climb ramps and/or stairs.

Please also note that not all Scenic ships have a lift. Here is a list of the ships which have an elevator and their restrictions:

    – Scenic Space-Ships in Europe have a lift which services the Diamond Deck and Sapphire Deck.

    – Scenic Spirit has a lift which services all decks between the Diamond Deck and Gem Deck.

I’m pregnant – can I still travel on a river cruise, ocean voyage or land journey?

The majority of cruise operators recommend that pregnant women should not travel after the 28-week period. If you do decide to travel, you may be asked to provide a doctor’s certificate clarifying you’re fit to travel.

Do the ships provide mobility-wheelchair access?

We welcome passengers with medical conditions or disabilities and can provide mobility provisions when notified in writing of a person’s needs before boarding. However, please be aware that there may be limitations on board and during excursions. Some of our ships do not have elevators, and where there is an elevator on board it may not access all decks. While collapsible wheelchairs are permitted on board under appropriate circumstances, you must be able to climb up and down stairs on coaches, and some excursions may require you to negotiate cobblestones or climb steps.

In addition, standard suites and bathrooms have significant thresholds and cabin doors which limit access, meaning they may not be wide enough to allow access to many wheelchairs. Please speak to a member of our team about your requirements prior to booking so that we can offer information on mobility and access.
