What to wear onboard a luxury cruise
Luxury cruise ships don’t often have strict dress codes, instead encouraging guests to wear what they feel comfortable in. Of course, the atmosphere onboard is luxurious so there are certain rules that should be adhered to. Onboard Regent Seven Seas, for example, the dress codes changes to ‘Elegant Casual’ after 6pm, when casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes become inappropriate for evening wear. Dinner dress for ladies includes a skirt, or trousers with a blouse or sweater, a pant suit or dress; trousers and a collared shirt for gentlemen. Sport jackets are optional and ties are not required. On the last night of the cruise, the dress code is often relaxed to allow guests to pack their luggage for early morning flights the next day. All laundry is included onboard Regent Seven Seas so you can rest easy knowing everything will be sorted for you.
DAYTIME CASUAL: COMFORT MEETS LUXURY
During the day, think comfortable yet polished. Consider light layers, linen or cotton blouses and easy-to-layer pieces that make it easy to transition from sun-soaked decks to cool lounges. Bring at least two swimsuits for rotation when visiting the onboard pools and private beaches at ports, as well as a stylish cover-up like a kaftan or sarong so you can move around the ship in style. Pair a mix of high-quality t-shirts, polos, sundresses or breathable shorts with espadrilles, loafers or luxe sandals.
For active excursions, bring breathable athletic wear, comfortable trainers, a sunhat, and UV-protective sunglasses. For more relaxed excursions, think chic walking shoes, shorts or cropped pants, and a light, breezy top. A crossbody bag or backpack that’s both stylish and functional is ideal for carrying essentials while keeping your hands free. In addition to your swimsuit, bring a quality beach tote, a wide-brimmed hat, reef-safe sunscreen, and a cover-up for beach days.
EVENING GLAMOUR: DRESS CODES DECIPHERED

Each cruise line has its own standards for evening attire, so check with us beforehand to determine whether you’ll need cocktail dresses, formal gowns, or smart-casual outfits. For black-tie evenings, a sophisticated cocktail dress, evening gown, or an elegant jumpsuit will work beautifully. Pair with heels, tasteful jewellery, and a clutch. On non-formal nights, consider dresses, skirts, or tailored trousers paired with blouses for women, while men might wear trousers with a collared shirt or blazer. Loafers or stylish flats complete the look for a relaxed yet refined vibe.
Packing the right accessories can elevate your outfits, adding both style and functionality. Opt for versatile pieces that work day and night, such as a pair of diamond or pearl studs, a couple of statement necklaces, and a classic bracelet or watch. Both stylish and practical, pack a packable wide-brimmed hat for beach days and a chic visor or cap for excursions. A large tote bag is perfect for day outings and poolside lounging, while a small clutch or crossbody bag works well for evenings.
