Venice is a city unlike any other. No matter how often you’ve seen it in photos and films, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could imagine. With canals where streets should be, water shimmers everywhere. The fabulous palaces and churches reflect centuries of history in what was a wealthy trading center between Europe and the Orient. Getting lost in the narrow alleyways is a quintessential part of exploring Venice, but at some point you’ll almost surely end up in Piazza San Marco, where tourists and locals congregate for a coffee or an aperitif.

Day programme:

Arrive at Venice Marco Polo International Airport. If you have arranged a Uniworld arrival transfer, you will be greeted by a Uniworld representative and transferred to the ship. Unpack, relax and enjoy your first evening on the Venetian Lagoon.

Day 10: Naples

Naples, in the Campania region, is Italy’s third largest city. Its claim to fame is the spectacular location along one of the world’s most splendid bays, backed by the perfect cone of Mount Vesuvius. In addition to its beautiful setting, Naples’ surprises with other outstanding attractions such as the Royal Palace, San Carlos Opera House, the impressive National Archaeological Museum and the Castel Nuovo, dating from the 13th-century. The city’s central area is best explored on foot. Chaotic traffic conditions make driving around the city a very frustrating experience. Naples provides a convenient starting point for trips to such favored destinations as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius. The Isle of Capri can be reached via a 45-minute hydrofoil service. The region of Campania was home to Greeks settlers some 300 years before Rome was founded. Pompeii, too, was a Greek town before being conquered by the Romans during the 5th century BC. It was under the Romans that Pompeii flourished and grew prosperous. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the population of 20,000 was wiped out, but dozens of buildings were preserved under layers of cinder more than 20 feet deep. The most important finds from Pompeii are displayed in Naples’ National Archaeological Museum. A visit here will no doubt enhance a visit to ancient Pompeii.

Day programme:

Be transported to 79 A.D. as you roam the ruins of Pompeii with a Local Expert. Inspect remnants of ancient shops, baths, and villas frozen in time by the volcanic eruption. Leave the past behind on a short cruise to the sun-drenched Isle of Capri or enjoy the scenic coastline as you make your way to your next hotel, located in either Capri or Sorrento.

Day 11: Capri

Tour description Capri, Italy Popular since Roman times when the emperors built their villas on Capri, this island is surely one of the world’s most famous and beautiful spots. Visiting Capri, it is easy to see why the ancient Romans fell in love with this place 2,000 years ago – the craggy mountains, the sea caves and grottos and the brilliantly colored flowers cast a magic spell then and still capture the admiration of today’s travelers. There are sleek yachts moored in the deep blue waters of the bays, and beautiful villas and tiny villages cling to steep slopes. An excellent year-round climate and a breathtaking landscape complete the picture of a storybook island. There are two main villages – Capri Town, site of the popular meeting point “Piazzetta,” and Anacapri, the upper town, dominated by 1,750-foot-high Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island. Both remain the “in” scene for international travelers. By spending millions on comfort and style, the island has ensured its continuing success. After a trip to upper-level Anacapri, visitors enjoy strolling the narrow, cobbled streets of Capri Town, browsing in chic boutiques and spending time in the Piazzetta with a drink in one of the outdoor cafés. There is a funicular from the main port of Marina Grande to Capri Town; from Anacapri, a chair lift whisks visitors to the top of Monte Solaro for a spellbinding view. The magical Blue Grotto can be reached by boat from Marina Grande, but entrance into the grotto depends for the most part on sea conditions. Please Note: For your convenience, the shore excursions offered for this port of call are available to reserve in advance at www.silversea.com until August 8 , as well as offered for purchase on board, unless otherwise noted in the description. Going Ashore in Capri Pier Information The ship is scheduled to anchor off Capri’s main port, Marina Grande. Guests will be taken ashore via local tenders, arriving at the pier just a short distance from the funicular to Capri Town. Taxis and minibuses are also available near the pier area. Be sure to agree on the fare before starting out. Shopping Capri is a shopping mecca, though by no means inexpensive. Upscale shops and boutiques offer an array of jewelry, designer fashions, resort wear, straw articles and souvenir items. Start from the Piazzetta and the streets fanning out from the square. Some shops may be closed between 12:30/1:00 p.m. and 4:00/4:30 p.m. The local currency is the euro. Cuisine Capri features plenty of open-air eateries in addition to top rated restaurants. Fresh seafood and delicious pasta dishes make for a nice lunch; for a quick meal there are tempting sandwiches and pizza. You might enjoy a hearty Italian table wine with lunch. Other Sights Capri Town La Piazzetta is the main square of Capri Town located just opposite the upper funicular station. The square is an ideal place from where to start exploring or shopping. Sidewalk cafés around the square provide residents and visitors with a popular pastime – people-watching while sipping a drink or enjoying a coffee.   Anacapri Reaching Capri’s second town is via local minibus. In addition to numerous souvenir shops and designer boutiques, attractions include Axel Munthe’s Villa San Michele and the chair lift to Monte Solaro. Blue Grotto Boat excursions to the Blue Grotto can be booked locally at Marina Grande. Be aware that it is necessary to transfer into smaller boats in front of the grotto. Also, entrance to the grotto is subject to weather and sea conditions. For this reason, tours to the Blue Grotto are frequently cancelled. Private arrangements are not available in this port.

Day programme:

Morning sunlight dances upon the shimmering waters of Capri on your private cruise to the White Grotto, a stark white cave set into impressive cliffs. Admire its contrast against the bright blue sea before setting off for Capri town. Cool off with a refreshing lemon granita before joining a local historian on a trip to the gardens of Caesar Augustus to view the legendary Faraglioni Rocks. Breathe in the sea air as you take in many terraces jutting out of the water before lunch at the Michelin-starred Le Monzù, where you’ll savor Mediterranean flavors.

Day 12: Assisi

Day programme:

Heading north along the Highway of the Sun, you will pass through beautiful hills with ancient medieval hilltop towns and alongside olive groves to Assisi. In this history-rich town and UNESCO World Heritage Site you have your pick of how to soak up the town’s riches. Join a local historian for a guided visit of the imposing Basilica of St. Francis or treat your palate by sampling Umbrian specialties. Continue to the regional capital of Perugia where you’ll wind your way through the maze of medieval streets to your centrally located, five-star hotel.

Day 13: San Gimignano

Day programme:

Discover the medieval Umbrian tradition of loom-weaving as fourth-generation artisan Marta welcomes you into her workshop, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience celebrating heritage and craft. Surrounded by sunlit vineyards, enjoy a private wine tasting paired with regional cuisine. Then, meet Gelato World Champion Sergio Dondoli and savor his award-winning, handcrafted flavors.

Day 14: Florence

Day programme:

Immerse yourself in Renaissance Florence by joining an art historian at the Accademia Museum to marvel at Michelangelo’s David. Gaze at the impressive trio of the Duomo, Bell Tower, and Baptistery before stepping into the Piazza della Signoria, rich in political history. Alternatively, visit the lively Mercato Centrale with a local foodie to sample seasonal gourmet highlights. Later, forage for truffles with a trained truffle dog. Conclude your day with a decadent meal featuring the famous Fiorentina (mouth-watering grilled Tuscan steak) in an elegant villa.

Day 15: Pisa

Day programme:

After enjoying a relaxed start to the morning, head to a former hunting lodge built in the 1200s by the Medici family. Here, you’ll learn from a professional Italian chef how to roll pasta by hand and discover the secrets of a tiramisu. Complete your cooking experience by savoring the fruits of your labor with a lovely lunch. This afternoon, travel to Pisa and get to know the city with a Local Expert.

Day 16: Cinque Terre National Park

Day programme:

Experience some of the most awe-inspiring coastal scenery on earth at the UNESCO-listed Cinque Terre. Discover charming Manarola, a picturesque fishing village, with some free time for lunch in Monterosso before traveling by train to the historic and colorful resort town of Rapallo.

Day 17: Venice

Venice is a city unlike any other. No matter how often you’ve seen it in photos and films, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could imagine. With canals where streets should be, water shimmers everywhere. The fabulous palaces and churches reflect centuries of history in what was a wealthy trading center between Europe and the Orient. Getting lost in the narrow alleyways is a quintessential part of exploring Venice, but at some point you’ll almost surely end up in Piazza San Marco, where tourists and locals congregate for a coffee or an aperitif.

Day programme:

Traverse the Apennine Mountain range past rolling, gentle hills of moss and emerald green before arriving in Venice. You’re treated to the most glamorous of arrivals as you take a private water taxi to dock at your waterfront hotel. After checking in, travel in style along the Grand Canal towards St. Mark’s Square for an orientation to Venice and gondola ride through the romantic canals. Later, join an after-hours visit to the magnificent Doge’s Palace.

Getting lost in the narrow alleyways is a quintessential part of exploring Venice, but at some point you’ll almost surely end up in Piazza San Marco, where tourists and locals congregate for a coffee or an aperitif.

Day programme:

This morning, choose to either wander hidden alleys of Venice with a Local Expert or learn about one of the oldest Jewish quarters in the world on a visit to the city’s former Jewish Ghetto. Then, get an inside look at the age-old skill of glassblowing on the island of Murano. Tonight, gather with your traveling companions over dinner at your celebratory evening at a traditional Venetian restaurant.

Uniworld Cares

Uniworld Cares

Travel has provided us the chance to give back and lift up others, and we strive to do so whenever possible. We focus on making a positive impact, with a mission to #MakeTravelMatter for people, wildlife and the planet for generations to come. And as a signatory of The Glasgow Declaration that has united several travel companies and organizations to hold each other accountable to vital carbon emissions goals, we’re part of a global effort to make the travel industry better for our planet—not just for our brand.

People
We work with local artisans and small business everywhere we travel, so we can bring you authentic local experiences while also supporting the livelihoods of the people who make these communities special.

Planet
Every year, we find more ways to cut back on our carbon footprint, from committing to eliminate more than 60 types of single-use plastics to reaching Net Zero by 2050.

Wildlife
Partnering with leading wildlife organizations, we work to protect and rehabilitate elephant, rhino and big cat populations around the world, while ensuring that all of our experiences meet strict animal welfare standards. Learn more about our wildlife projects here.

HOW WE TREAD RIGHT

We’re Committed to Net Zero by 2050 or Sooner
We conduct comprehensive measurements of our emissions in order to reduce and offset our carbon footprint, with the goal of reaching Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050. On our way, we’re supplementing our efforts by supporting third parties that remove the existing carbon in the atmosphere.

Reducing Food Waste Onboard
Food waste is one of the largest contributors to climate change, so we’ve partnered with a food waste management company, Leanpath, to reduce our carbon footprint. Their system measures how much food gets discarded after every meal onboard. With the precise measurements it will provide us, our chefs will have the data and confidence necessary to make the perfect amount of each dish. Watch the video below to learn more about how Leanpath works.

Make Travel Matter® experiences
We offer a selection of included MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences on our cruises. They are chosen for the positive environmental or social impact they have on the guests who experience them, and the people and places they visit, and they support one or more of the United Nation’s Global Goals.

Make Travel Matter® pledge
We’ve partnered with TreadRight and The Travel Corporation to launch the MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Pledge. Uniworld employees, alongside our 10,000 colleagues across 42 travel brands worldwide, have been asked to take this pledge to make travel matter and help protect people, the planet and wildlife. As travellers, travel providers and members of the global travel industry, this pledge serves as the next step in our long-standing commitment to sustainable tourism and conscious travel.

Say Goodbye to Single-Use Plastics
It is estimated that an additional eight million tons of plastic pour into our oceans every year. According to a report by the World Economic Forum, if nothing is done to push back against the deluge of plastics currently overwhelming our oceans there could be more plastic in the oceans than fish by 2050.

We’re banning more than 60 types of single-use plastics across all operations—including straws, water bottles, and plastic bags. It’s all part of our commitment to ensure the environment remains vibrant for generations to come.

Dress Code

Dress Code

For destinations in EUROPE:

It’s best to prepare for a variety of weather conditions, depending on your travel season and the regions through which you will be cruising. Layering clothing items is always your best bet, as this allows you to adjust to most temperatures, including artificially maintained temperatures, by adding or removing items throughout the day.

Comfortable, sporty, smart-casual daywear is appropriate both onshore and onboard. Everyday slacks, khakis, walking shorts and everyday skirts/dresses are recommended. For warmer temperatures, we suggest lightweight clothing that can be layered, such as a mix of sweaters, lightweight knit shirts, slacks and walking shorts. For early spring and late fall departures, you’ll find sweatshirts, heavier cotton or wool tops and long-sleeved shirts, and corduroy or heavy khaki pants perfectly suitable. Mix and-match color schemes work best to help keep baggage light. You will participate in a significant amount of walking over uneven terrain during your time ashore. We recommend comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support. Sturdy sandals are another good option. For evenings, any resort-type wear is perfectly suitable; however, we do ask that you not wear shorts to dinner. Men may want to bring one sport jacket for dressier restaurant venues and for special events onboard such as the Captain’s Welcome and Farewell festivities. Women may wish to bring a cocktail dress or two for finer dining or entertainment experiences. Don’t forget to pack a lightweight waterproof jacket (preferably hooded) or even a heavier weight wind-breaker for colder temperatures.

We recommend wearing comfortable, smart-casual clothing both onshore and onboard. We also suggest sturdy walking shoes, as you will do a significant amount of walking on shore excursions, often over cobblestones or uneven terrain. A sun hat, rain gear, and a coat or wrap for chilly evenings are useful items to have. While there is no formal dress code for dining ashore, concerts, special events onboard, etc., men may want to bring a sports jacket and women a cocktail dress or pantsuit. Neckties are optional. Please note that shorts are not allowed at dinner aboard the ship.

For our EXOTICS destinations:

These programs are very different from European river programs; attire is more casual due to the region’s warmer temperatures. During the cruise/tour portion of your program, comfortable, lightweight clothing in lighter colors is strongly recommended. We suggest clothing that can be layered, such as a mix of cotton shirts, lightweight knit shirts, sweaters, everyday khakis, slacks, skirts/dresses, walking shorts and sun hats.

Prepare for a variety of weather conditions, depending on your travel season and the regions through which you will be cruising. Layering clothing items is always your best bet, as this allows you to adjust to most temperatures, including artificially maintained temperatures, by removing or adding items throughout the day. Mix/match color schemes work best to help keep baggage light.

You will participate in a significant amount of walking over uneven terrain during your time ashore. We recommend comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support. Sturdy sandals are another good option.

Don’t forget to pack a lightweight waterproof jacket (preferably hooded) or even a heavy weight windbreaker for colder temperatures, especially during early spring, fall and winter departures.

PLEASE NOTE: To enter the temples and other holy sites, guests should ensure that their shoulders and knees are covered.

Airport/Ship Transfers for Uniworld Programs

If you purchase a Uniworld Air-Inclusive Vacation, you enjoy the special included convenience of scheduled group transfers between the airport and the ship/hotel on the day the cruise or cruise/tour begins, and between the ship/hotel and the airport on the day the cruise or cruise/tour ends, when air booked falls within our transfer guidelines. There may be a waiting period between transfers of two hours or more unless private car transfers have been purchased. Private car transfers are only available on the cruise or cruise/tour start/end dates and are only available for transportation between designated airports and the ship, for up to two guests per car. If your flight arrangements arrive/depart outside of these parameters, you must make your own transfer arrangements.

Please note: Due to airport restrictions, group transfer motor coaches may not be allowed to park in front of every terminal to pick up guests. The airport-designated area for motor coaches can be a walking distance of 10-30 minutes from the terminal, depending on the airport. Our airport representatives have limited ability to carry luggage or assist guests who have mobility limitations. Therefore, guests who want or need assistance are advised to consider booking our private transfers, as most airports allow private cars to stop in front of each terminal exit.

Making Your Own Flight Arrangements: Should you elect to make your own flight arrangements, Uniworld will provide complimentary scheduled group transfers to/from the ship/hotel as long as your flights arrive/depart in the cruise/tour starting/ending cities in accordance with the dates shown in this brochure and your flight arrangements comply with the Transfer Guidelines as shown below. If your flight arrangements arrive/depart outside of these parameters, you must make your own transfer arrangements. Uniworld will not be responsible for missed transfers due to delayed or cancelled flights, or for missed cruise/trip days, or for extra costs resulting from the foregoing. To qualify for transfers, it is required that flight information and pre-trip arrangements for all passengers making their own flight arrangements be given to Uniworld no later than forty-five (45) days prior to departure and must conform to the Transfer Guidelines below:
