Itinerary

Day 1: Fusina
Day 2: Piran
Day 3: Zadar
Day 4: Hvar Island
Day 5: Dubrovnik
Day 7: Taormina
Day 8: Valletta
Day 1: Fusina

Day itinerary:

Losing none of its allure over the years, this floating city of canals, bridges and masks is a place of eternal beauty and enduring elegance. The lagoon of more than 100 islands is a heavenly sight, transporting visitors on a journey through time – from its Roman inception, through centuries of trade to the modern face we see today. Navigate Venice’s sparkling waterways by romantic gondola, or on cruises along wide canal boulevards. Span the Grand Canal over its iconic original crossing, the Rialto Bridge, which – with its parade of tiny shops – gives some of the city’s most endearing views. If the crowds unsettle you at any point, take two turns away from the main thoroughfares to find peace alone, amid the city’s labyrinth of tiny streets. Hurry to Piazza San Marco to be immersed in Venice’s elegant glory. Basilica San Marco transports you back to the wealthy days of the Doges, who ruled for over 1,000 years. Initially their private chapel, it’s now decorated with beautiful Byzantine mosaics. Nearby the Campanile di San Marco bell tower offers views over the higgledy-piggledy rooftops of times gone by. Just a hop skip and a jump around the corner is the Doge’s Palace, where the levels of opulence ramp up even further. Justice was meted out in this stunning Palace, with the guilty walking to the cells across the covered Bridge of Sighs. Vaporetto trips to local islands offer even more adventures to float your boat, whether it’s Murano with its world-famous glass, Torcello with its amazing Cathedrals, or Burano with its handmade lace and delightfully colourful painted houses.

Day 2: Piran

Day itinerary:

Perched on a rocky peninsula and surrounded by pristine waters, Piran, Slovenia, has one of the most scenic looks of the Mediterranean and a truly unique cultural heritage. At the crossroads of Eastern and Western Mediterranean cultures, the town is one of the medieval jewels that can be found on the Adriatic Sea. In many ways similar to the small and beautiful harbours of the Istrian coast, Piran relishes a rich Venetian heritage that still lives on today in the city’s architecture and main square, named after the famous Italian composer Giuseppe Tartini.

Day 3: Zadar

Dalmatia’s capital for more than 1,000 years, Zadar is all too often passed over by travelers on their way to Split or Dubrovnik. What they miss out on is a city of more than 73,000 that is remarkably lovely and lively despite—and, in some measure, because of—its tumultuous history. The Old Town, separated from the rest of the city on a peninsula some 4 km (2½ miles) long and just 1,640 feet wide, is bustling and beautiful: the marble pedestrian streets are replete with Roman ruins, medieval churches, palaces, museums, archives, and libraries. Parts of the new town are comparatively dreary, a testament to what a world war followed by decades of communism, not to mention a civil war, can do to the architecture of a city that is 3,000 years old. A settlement had already existed on the site of the present-day city for some 2,000 years when Rome finally conquered Zadar in the 1st century BC; the foundations of the forum can be seen today. Before the Romans came the Liburnians had made it a key center for trade with the Greeks and Romans for 800 years. In the 3rd century BC the Romans began to seriously pester the Liburnians, but required two centuries to bring the area under their control. During the Byzantine era, Zadar became the capital of Dalmatia, and this period saw the construction of its most famous church, the 9th-century St. Donat’s Basilica. It remained the region’s foremost city through the ensuing centuries. The city then experienced successive onslaughts and occupations—both long and short—by the Osogoths, the Croatian-Hungarian kings, the Venetians, the Turks, the Habsburgs, the French, the Habsburgs again, and finally the Italians before becoming part of Yugoslavia and, in 1991, the independent republic of Croatia. Zadar was for centuries an Italian-speaking city, and Italian is still spoken widely, especially by older people. Indeed, it was ceded to Italy in 1921 under the Treaty of Rapallo (and reverted to its Italian name of Zara). Its occupation by the Germans from 1943 led to intense bombing by the Allies during World War II, which left most of the city in ruins. Zadar became part of Tito’s Yugoslavia in 1947, prompting many Italian residents to leave. Zadar’s most recent ravages occurred during a three-month siege by Serb forces and months more of bombardment during the Croatian-Serbian war between 1991 and 1995. But you’d be hard-pressed to find outward signs of this today in what is a city to behold. There are helpful interpretive signs in English all around the Old Town, so you certainly won’t feel lost when trying to make sense of the wide variety of architectural sites you might otherwise pass by with only a cursory look.

Day itinerary:

Croatia’s Capital of Cool Zadar is a dazzling mesh of influences and creativity. Glorious turquoise-water beaches and heavenly waterfalls also lie within easy reach of this energetic city of festivals and outdoor fun. See the old town with its robust city walls boasting decorative stone gateways and marble streets. The church of St Donatus was built from stones pillaged from the Roman forum while Zadar Cathedral – Dalmatia’s biggest – stands among the many architectural treats of this city which was once an impenetrable stronghold of Venice’s republic. Head for the ‘pillar of shame’ with its chains to humiliate the criminals of a bygone time – or succumb to the tempting treats of shopping in the market. The sparkling Adriatic’s waters calls you and Kolovare Beach is a mere ten-minute stroll from the old town. A day trip to Kornat National Park – which incorporates the Zadar Archipelago’s immaculate scattering of beach-fringed islands – or to the divine waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park will introduce you to more of Croatia’s thrilling natural beauty. The sea truly does sing here in Zadar thanks to a unique waterfront artwork which encapsulates the city’s playful spirit. Designed to make music when the waves wash over it the ebb and flow of the Adriatic plays the Sea Organ instrument like a maestro. Not far away the Monument to the Sun is a 22-metre-wide disc which gathers the sun’s rays during the sunny days and releases the solar energy in the form of a magical light show after dark.

Day 4: Hvar Island

The Croatian island of Hvar bills itself as the “sunniest island in the Adriatic.” Not only does it have the figures to back up this claim—an annual average of 2,724 hours of sunshine—but it also makes visitors a sporting proposition, offering them a money-back guarantee if there are seven consecutive days of snow (snow has been known to fall here; the last time being February 2012).

Day itinerary:

One of the most popular of the island escapes sprinkled across the turquoise Adriatic Hvar is a glorious idyll of hidden coves electric blue waters and quietly contented port towns. In recent years it’s gathered something of a reputation as a party island – mainly earned from Hvar Town’s nocturnal exuberances and the transient day-tripping yachts that drop by. Soak up the energy exuberance and fine dining or sidestep the hedonism to explore a richly refined rural and historic island – utterly spoiled with sunshine and hidden beaches which dazzle with colourful intensity. Bike rides along long sweeping coastal paths boat journeys from pretty harbours walks through fields of purple lavender. Relish the sunshine and explore deserted idyllic inlets before sharing strong espressos in quiet harbour towns surrounded by welcoming sun-wrinkled locals. There’s also rich Medieval history – the sleepy town of Stari Grad is said to be Croatia’s oldest dating back to 384 BC. Elsewhere Jelsa is a postcard perfect place – settle in for a bite to eat with nothing but the sound of harbour waters lapping and sandpaper scraping boats hulls for company. You can walk to look out over glorious views across to Brac sometimes watching on as thunderstorms rage and flash an eternity away over the mainland’s crumpled mountains. You’re also just a short ferry ride from the incredible Golden Horn – an evocative spike of brilliant sand which juts out evocatively into the cobalt-blue sea.

Day 5: Dubrovnik

Nothing can prepare you for your first sight of Dubrovnik. Lying 216 km (135 miles) southeast of Split and commanding a jaw-dropping coastal location, it is one of the world’s most beautiful fortified cities. Its massive stone ramparts and fortress towers curve around a tiny harbor, enclosing graduated ridges of sun-bleached orange-tiled roofs, copper domes, and elegant bell towers. Your imagination will run wild picturing what it looked like seven centuries ago when the walls were built, without any suburbs or highways around it, just this magnificent stone city rising out of the sea.In the 7th century AD, residents of the Roman city Epidaurum (now Cavtat) fled the Avars and Slavs of the north and founded a new settlement on a small rocky island, which they named Laus, and later Ragusa. On the mainland hillside opposite the island, the Slav settlement called Dubrovnik grew up. In the 12th century the narrow channel separating the two settlements was filled in (now the main street through the Old Town, called Stradun), and Ragusa and Dubrovnik became one. The city was surrounded by defensive walls during the 13th century, and these were reinforced with towers and bastions in the late 15th century. From 1358 to 1808 the city thrived as a powerful and remarkably sophisticated independent republic, reaching its golden age during the 16th century. In 1667 many of its splendid Gothic and Renaissance buildings were destroyed by an earthquake. The defensive walls survived the disaster, and the city was rebuilt in baroque style.Dubrovnik lost its independence to Napoléon in 1808, and in 1815 passed to Austria-Hungary. During the 20th century, as part of Yugoslavia, the city became a popular tourist destination, and in 1979 it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the war for independence, it came under heavy siege. Thanks to careful restoration, few traces of damage remain; however, there are maps inside the Pile and Ploče Gates illustrating the points around the city where damage was done. It’s only when you experience Dubrovnik yourself that you can understand what a treasure the world nearly lost

Day itinerary:

Croatia’s crowning glory rears up vertically from the tranquil waters of the Adriatic and Dubrovnik’s daunting fortresses town is a truly imposing sight to behold. Encircled by chunky stone walls so thick and dramatic they could have been purpose-built as a film set this city’s unmatched old town is the setting for countless films and shows – from Star Wars to Robin Hood Game of Thrones and every production in-between seeking a truly authentic medieval flavour. Fully restored now the stone streets of the city take you through a beautiful mosaic of architectural splendour baroque churches and splashing fountains. Tapering alleys rocket up from the central boulevard of Stradun offering spectacular views down but you’ll need to walk the city walls to appreciate the fortress city’s full scale. Visit the neighbouring fort of Lovrijenac for another perspective or swing up to Srd fortress’s glorious panorama on a cable car. Dubrovnik’s streets are crammed with eateries and candlelit tables where couples splash wine into glasses and enjoy gnocchi mixed with creamy truffle sauces. Nearby beaches like Banje are also close by and hidden bays reward the intrepid who venture out beyond the old town. Take sunset drinks to sit back and watch as flotillas of sea kayaks roll by or sail on the pristine waters to explore island gems like Lokrum – where peacocks are the only permanent residents.

Day 7: Taormina

The medieval cliff-hanging town of Taormina is overrun with tourists, yet its natural beauty is still hard to dispute. The view of the sea and Mt. Etna from its jagged cactus-covered cliffs is as close to perfection as a panorama can get—especially on clear days, when the snowcapped volcano’s white puffs of smoke rise against the blue sky. Writers have extolled Taormina’s beauty almost since it was founded in the 6th century BC by Greeks from nearby Naxos; Goethe and D. H. Lawrence were among its well-known enthusiasts. The town’s boutique-lined main streets get old pretty quickly, but the many hiking paths that wind through the beautiful hills surrounding Taormina promise a timeless alternative. A trip up to stunning Castelmola (whether on foot or by car) should also be on your itinerary.

Day itinerary:

Hugging a long, sweeping bay, Giardini Naxos welcomes you ashore to some of Sicily’s most scenic and historic sites. Naxos was the first Greek settlement on Sicily, and it is surrounded by remarkable remains and swirling mythology. With a long arc of sun-soaked golden sand, you can kick back by the waves – and cool off with a dip into the sea’s refreshing embrace. Up above the seaside revelry, the spectacular Taormina hillside town perches – containing rich Roman and Greek history. Visit to encounter one of Sicily’s best views, as you look down over the rejuvenating blue of the sea, and the looming backdrop of Mount Etna rising in the distance. The majestic, honey-coloured Greek theatre is a highlight, standing before the distant loom of the volcano. Head towards the puffs of cloud, and wisps of smoke, that gather around the peak of Sicily’s mighty volcano, which is among the most active in Europe. Arrive through vineyards, thriving in this fertile soil, before taking the 1,737-metre incline to the summit of the legendary mountain of fire, across fields of solidified lava flows. Known to the Greeks as the home of the God of Fire, and the one-eyed Cyclops, the mountain continues to amaze and awe with its restless power. Vineyards carpet the scenery – interrupted by occasional cactai and citrus groves – and produce some of Sicily’s most refined flavours. Enjoy a glass of wine on Giardini Naxos’ seafront, and toast your time on these rich Sicilian shores.

Day 8: Valletta

Malta’s capital, the minicity of Valletta, has ornate palaces and museums protected by massive fortifications of honey-color limestone. Houses along the narrow streets have overhanging wooden balconies for people-watching from indoors. Generations ago they gave housebound women a window on the world of the street. The main entrance to town is through the City Gate (where all bus routes end), which leads onto Triq Repubblika (Republic Street), the spine of the grid-pattern city and the main shopping street. Triq Mercante (Merchant Street) parallels Repubblika to the east and is also good for strolling. From these two streets, cross streets descend toward the water; some are stepped. Valletta’s compactness makes it ideal to explore on foot. City Gate and the upper part of Valletta are experiencing vast redevelopment that includes a new Parliament Building and open-air performance venue. The complex, completed mid-2013, has numerous pedestrian detours in place along with building noise and dust. Before setting out along Republic Street, stop at the tourist information office on Merchant Street for maps and brochures.

Day itinerary:

Perched high on the imposing Sciberras Peninsula, Valletta immediately presents its massive, protective walls and vertical bastions to visitors arriving by sea. Rising to 47 metres in places, the fortifications protect lavish palaces, grand domes and illustrious gardens. Built by the Knights of St John on the narrow peninsular, Valletta is a compact, richly historical treasure trove of Baroque wonders. Ascend to reach the restful, flower-filled Upper Barrakka Gardens, where cannons fire and boom in salute at noon each day, sending echoing cracks of noise out across the waves below. Recognised as 2018’s European Capital of Culture, Valletta is a fascinating and dense haven of history and intrigue. A busy, bustling capital, the breathtaking St John’s Cathedral – commissioned in 1572 – is almost concealed among its narrow streets. The relatively modest exterior is counterpointed by a staggeringly opulent, gold-leaf bathed interior, containing a Caravaggio masterpiece – the shadowy vision of the Beheading of St John. Cinematic and magnificent, Valletta has served as a filming location for Game of Thrones – but real epic history abounds on this rocky isle too. From the prehistoric and megalithic sites of the Hypogeum of Paola and Tarxien, to the fascinating War Museum at Fort St Elmo. Mdina also waits nearby, and the former medieval capital is a striking contrast to the island’s main city. Cars are barred from its streets, and it offers endlessly atmospheric old-time wanders. With a strategic positioning in the Mediterranean, Malta is a jewel that many have wrestled for over the centuries. Independence from Britain was finally achieved in 1964, but the close allegiance remains evident, with English recognised as an official language, cars driving on the left, and red post boxes and telephone gleaming in Malta’s sunshine.

Minors & Childcare

Minors & Childcare

Silversea cruise guidelines state that children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult aged 21 or over, in the same or a connecting suite, for the duration of the voyage. Each suite that includes a minor must have at least one adult aged 21 or over present. If the adult accompanying the minor is not their parent, a Parental Consent Guardianship Form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian and received by Silversea prior to sailing. Please contact our Special Services Department at SpecialServices@Silversea.com for a Parental Consent Form.

Guests must be 21 years of age or older to purchase or consume alcohol. Silversea reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who, in its sole judgment, may be under the influence of alcohol or in any circumstance necessary to preserve the health and safety of guests and crew.

Silversea cannot accommodate infants less than six months of age and reserves the right to limit the number of children less than three years of age. Parents are required to sign a notarized waiver prior to sailing to grant a valid booking for children ages between 6 months and 1 year old. A signed and notarized waiver will be required for all children of these ages.

Although Silversea accepts guests over the age of 6 months (over the age of 5 years for Silversea Expeditions), there are no special programs for children on board our ships, and Silversea does not provide childcare, entertainment, or supervision. Silversea reserves the right to limit the number of children less than 3 years of age.

Children under the age of 8 years are permitted to participate in suitable Shore Excursions or shuttle services only if the vehicles are equipped with the correct safety harness and seating equipment. Child harnesses and secure seating cannot be guaranteed. Silversea reserves the right to refuse children under 8 years old on any tour on the basis of safety. Guests may use their own approved safety seat, booster seat, or harness, provided it is compatible with the local touring vehicle and can properly secure the child.

To ensure guest safety and comfort, the following minimum ages apply to expedition activities:

  • Zodiac Cruises: Minimum age 5 years, accompanied by an adult.
  • Snorkeling: Minimum age 12 years, accompanied by an adult.
  • Kayaking: Minimum age 14 years when accompanied by an adult, or 16 years to participate solo.

As Silversea does not provide childcare services, an adult family member must remain onboard with any child who does not meet the minimum age requirements.

Inoculations

Generally, inoculations are not required in most areas where Silversea travels. These requirements are subject to change and it is recommended that you verify current guidelines with your travel professional prior to departure. Please note that when travelling to countries that do require inoculations, written verification will be necessary. Before taking any trip overseas, it is wise to check with your doctor, particularly if you are under a doctor’s care.

Medical Services On Board

Each Silversea ship is equipped with a Medical Centre, which is customarily staffed by a doctor and nurse on 24-hour call when at sea. When docked, supplementary emergency care may also be obtained through local medical facilities. Guests may be charged for medical services and for medications used for their medical treatment. The Medical Centre is not intended or designed to provide ongoing treatment of pre-existing conditions or for extended critical care, and Silversea is not responsible for the diagnosis, treatment or services furnished by shipboard medical personnel. Guests requiring oxygen for medical reasons are welcome to bring an oxygen concentrator onboard. Guests wishing to bring their own portable oxygen tanks must obtain prior written authorisation from Silversea, as restrictions may apply.

Pregnancy

Silversea policy regarding pregnancy is derived from the Cruise Lines International Association endorsement of the American College of Emergency Physicians Health Care Guidelines for Cruise Ship Medical Facilities, which can be found at https://www.acep.org/. This includes the guideline that “Pregnant women who have entered the 24th week of estimated fetal gestational age at any time during the cruise should not be eligible to sail with the ship. It is Silversea policy that any Guest who will have entered her 24th week of pregnancy or greater, at any time during the cruise, will be prohibited from sailing. The Guest and treating physician should consider before any cruise that there is no Obstetrician/Gynecologist available on the ship, and that pregnancies, when unstable and poorly controlled, are potentially life-threatening, especially without back up. A Guest may be at sea for several days without any immediate hospital and/or specialist back up, and that since the proposed itinerary is not within the U.S., and the availability of specialized shore side facilities can be problematic. All guests are required to sign a health questionnaire at check-in to ensure they are aware of our pregnancy policy. If you have already booked a cruise or cruise tour and do not meet this requirement, please contact your travel agent or airline.

Prescription Medication

For your convenience and wellbeing, it is important that you bring a sufficient supply of any prescription medicine you may need. Prescriptions cannot be refilled onboard, and usually cannot be refilled overseas. To prevent delays in clearing Customs, it is also a good idea to travel with a doctor’s letter explaining that your prescription medication is required for your continued health. It is also recommended that the medicine remain in its original container with the original pharmacy label intact.

Special Medical Conditions

If you have any existing medical condition that may require attention, or should you require oxygen for medical reasons whilst onboard, please send written notification prior to your voyage to specialservices@silversea.com or via fax to 954-759-5049. Please note that an oxygen concentrator is the only form of oxygen equipment that the Silversea ships can accommodate. Guests who rely upon wheelchairs must bring their own. Please note that not all shore excursions are suitable for guests with impaired mobility.

Health & Medical Requirements

All guests are required to report in writing to Silversea at the time their reservation is made:

  • Any physical or mental condition that may require medical or professional treatment or attention during the voyage.
  • Any condition that may render the guest unfit for travel, or that may require special care or assistance.
  • Any condition that may pose a risk or danger to the guest or anyone else onboard the ship.
  • Any condition that may require oxygen for medical reasons.
  • Any intention or need to use a wheelchair cart, other mobility device or a service or assistance animal aboard ship.

By booking passage and by boarding the ship, the guest represents and warrants that he / she is physically and otherwise fit to travel, and that the guest will comply at all times with applicable rules and regulations of the ship and orders and instructions of the ship’s officers and medical staff. Silversea reserves the right without liability to require a guest to disembark and / or to refuse to board and transport a guest who, in the judgment of Silversea or the ship’s Master, is unfit to travel or may require care beyond that which Silversea is reasonably able to provide. Silversea strongly recommends wheelchair guests travel with someone who is able to assist them both ashore and at sea as Silversea may be unable to offer special assistance. Please note that wheel-on and / or wheel-off access may not be available at some ports-of-call. Wheelchair guests must bring their own collapsible wheelchair.

For guests travelling aboard Expedition Fleet vessels, Silversea strongly recommends wheelchair guests travel with someone who is able

to assist them both ashore and at sea as Silversea may be unable to offer special assistance. Please note that wheel-on and / or wheel-off access may not be available at some ports-of-call. Wheelchair guests must bring their own collapsible wheelchair.

During the day, guests are welcome to dress in relaxed attire comparable to five-star resort wear. Lightweight, comfortable clothing and flat or low-heeled shoes are recommended for time spent on outdoor decks.

Starting at 6:00 p.m. each evening, Silversea maintains a dress code of modern luxury. Evening wear falls into different categories, and a detailed dress code policy is provided here.

Baggage Allowance

Baggage Allowance

A reasonable amount of cruise luggage may be brought aboard the ship without charge. For Silversea guests or guests on land programmes, luggage must be handled in accordance with regulations and tariffs of airlines and/or ground operators.

Luggage allowance policies may vary by airline, destination and class of service. Most, if not all, airlines strictly enforce their carry-on and checked luggage policies and you may be required to pay additional fees should the weight and size of your luggage be outside the airline’s set policy and/or the number of pieces exceed the free luggage allowance. Since the airlines’ policies change frequently, it is strongly recommended that you or your travel professional obtain current baggage allowance restrictions via the airline’s website or by contacting the air carriers directly.

Please note that guests are, at all times, fully responsible for any/all airline baggage fees. For travel to/from and within the United States, please visit https://bags.amadeus.com/ or the individual air carriers’ website for a complete listing of baggage fees.

Silver Shore Land Adventures may impose additional baggage limitations. Your final travel documents include the details of your Land Adventure’s baggage limitations, if applicable. All luggage must be securely packed and tagged with the supplied pre-printed cruise luggage tags supplied as part of your documentation package. In accordance with airport security restrictions for carry-on baggage, it is recommended that you hand carry travel documents (passports, visas, inoculation verification, cruise and air tickets), medications and valuables. Liquid, fragile, perishable and other articles not suitably packed are transported at your own risk. Under no circumstances may dangerous items (including but not limited to: explosives, firearms, combustible or illegal substances) be taken aboard the ship.

Items prohibited on board include:

  • Firearms and ammunition, including realistic replicas
  • Sharp objects, including all knives and scissors (Please note that personal grooming items, such as safety razors and scissors with a blade length less than 4 inches / 10 cm, are allowed)
  • Illegal drugs and substances
  • CBD Oil / CBD products
  • Candles, incense, coffee makers, clothes irons, travel steamers and hot plates (i.e. items that generate heat or produce an open flame, or any other item that may create a fire hazard). Exceptions include curling irons, hair straighteners, matches and normal lighter. However, “torch lighters” that emit a powerful concentrated flame, and novelty lighters that look like guns, are not allowed
  • Hoverboards
  • Martial arts, self defense, and sports gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray, and night sticks
  • Flammable liquids and explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks
  • Hookahs and water hookah pipes
  • HAM radios
  • Electrical extension cords, including power strips and/or surge protected strips
  • Dangerous chemicals, including bleach and paint
  • Perishable food and meat products
  • Drones, including toy flying device

There are limits to where smart glasses can be worn onboard. Smart glasses cannot be worn in the casino, spa service areas, restrooms, locker rooms, medical facilities, security screening locations, during back-of-house tours, in crew areas, or anywhere there is a reasonable expectation for guest and crew privacy.

Smart glasses users who are seen violating this policy will have the glasses confiscated by the Chief Security Officer or Staff Captain.

If such items are found, they may be confiscated and returned on the last day of the voyage prior to disembarkation.

Silversea is not responsible for loss or damage to luggage or any other personal item that may occur, or while participating in hotel and/or land programmes or shore excursions. To avoid the possibility of losing cruise luggage en route to the port of embarkation, it is recommended to ship your cruise luggage ahead of you via Silversea’s Silver Shore Baggage Valet programme or other service.

Upon embarkation, Silversea will make every effort to deliver your cruise luggage in a timely manner; however delivery may be delayed due to strict customs formalities that are beyond the ship’s control, so please remember to pack all essentials in your carry-on bag.

Smoking Policy

At Silversea, the safety of all guests is paramount. To ensure a comfortable environment for all, smoking is prohibited in most public areas, guest suites, and suite balconies. However, cigarette, e-cigarette, cigar, pipe, and vaporizer smoking is permitted in the Connoisseur’s Corner — both indoors and outdoors where applicable. In addition, cigarette, e-cigarette, and vaporizer smoking is only permitted in designated outside areas.

Silversea kindly requests that all guests respect the non-smoking areas.

Internet

All Silversea ships are equipped to offer wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access. You can use your own laptop to surf the Internet and check emails at Wi-Fi locations throughout the ship, or from the comfort and privacy of your suite. Computers, email and Internet access are also available on board at the Internet Café. However, it is important to understand that telecommunication services while at sea are via satellite and significantly different than high-speed connections on land back home. The signal travels in a similar manner to radio waves but at much greater distances. Therefore, onboard Internet access is not guaranteed at all times. Satellite communications are also affected by weather and the ship’s location. In particular, Internet service is extremely sporadic while in the Arctic. Guests aboard expedition cruises to/from Svalbard should be prepared to be out of communication for the duration of their time on board.

Wheelchair Accessibility & Mobility Assistance

Wheelchair Accessibility & Mobility Assistance

BEFORE BOOKING

Do guests need to notify Silversea in advance about mobility needs?

Yes, guests should inform Silversea of any special assistance or mobility equipment requirements before sailing. This can be done via My Silversea under Guest Information / Special Request, or by contacting specialservices@silversea.com.

Does Silversea provide wheelchairs?

Yes, each vessel has wheelchairs available at the reception for temporary use, such as embarkation and disembarkation. Guests who require a wheelchair for the entire cruise should bring their own.

Can guests bring their own mobility equipment?

Yes, personal wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility aids are allowed. However, guests staying in standard (non-ADA) suites should note that electric scooters may not fit through the doors.

Therefore, guests traveling with a wheelchair, scooter, or ECV are always highly suggested to book a wheelchair-accessible suite with a wider entrance door and an appropriate path of travel inside the room and accommodate the equipment. Regular Suites have a narrower entrance door and may not have the necessary interior space to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters.

What features do wheelchair-accessible suites offer?

Silversea ships offer specially designed suites for guests who require mobility assistance. These suites are equipped with wider entrance doors and appropriate paths of travel to accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility equipment. All areas within these suites are reachable without the need for additional ramps, except for Silver Suites onboard Silver Moon and Silver Dawn and Classic Veranda onboard Silver Endeavour. In these suites Silversea offer ramp to go outside the balcony. The vessels also have wheelchairs available at the reception for guest use.

EMBARKATION & DISEMBARKATION

How do guests get on and off the ship with mobility equipment?

Silversea vessels have procedures in place to assist guests with mobility equipment during embarkation and disembarkation. When the gangway is flat, guests can drive their wheelchair off the ship. However, if the gangway involves stairs, our staff will provide assistance. The Safety Officer or Bridge must be informed whenever a wheelchair is involved in disembarkation or boarding, and our crew members are available to assist guests in need.

Is assistance available for boarding?

Yes, but guests who require full-time assistance should travel with a companion, as Silversea does not provide dedicated personal caregivers. Butlers can assist with getting to the gangway or dining venues but do not provide continuous mobility assistance.

ONBOARD

Silversea’s ships are designed for accessibility, featuring:

  • Wide gangways to accommodate most wheelchairs and scooters
  • Accessible public restrooms
  • Wheelchair seating in dining venues, bars, and the Venetian Lounge
  • Braille/tactile signage for visually impaired guests in elevators, stateroom numbers, and staircases

How does Silversea assist disabled guests in their suites?

Silversea butler can provide reasonable assistance to guest getting to and from the gangway, and to and from a restaurant, however Silversea does not offer full-time wheelchair service and/or staff fully dedicated to providing Guests with wheelchair assistance. Guests traveling on their own wheelchair should be assisted only when requested and are recommended to travel with an able bodily companion.

GOING ASHORE

Are all ports wheelchair accessible?

Not all ports have wheelchair-friendly infrastructure. In some destinations, tender boats or on Silversea Expeditions Zodiacs are required for disembarkation, and wheelchairs or mobility scooters cannot be accommodated in these cases.

Can guests arrange private accessible transportation in port?

If available, private wheelchair-accessible vehicles can be arranged. In some ports, shuttle buses may be wheelchair accessible, but availability is not guaranteed.

Does Silversea offer wheelchair-accessible shore excursions?

Until now we have been offering dedicated “Wheelchair Accessible Excursions” in some areas of the world., These tours are operated by wheelchair accessible vehicles and include only wheelchair accessible venues. These tours are mainly offered in Europe and the US. If you have any questions or concerns regarding shore excursion suitability, please contact the Shore Concierge (shoreconcierge@silversea.com) before your voyage or visit the Shore Concierge desk for more detailed information once onboard.

Wheelchair accessible shore excursions are indicated on the website with the universal accessibility icon.

Are there alternatives for guests with limited mobility?

In almost every port, Silversea offers low-activity excursions specially designed for mobility challenged guests, who can negotiate the steps on and off the coaches.

Is there any destination that is not recommend to guests with disabilities?

The more exotic destinations, like Asia, South Africa and South America it is recommended to guest to book a private vehicle due to the lack of infrastructure, for example wheelchair accessible vehicles are very rare to find and museums, restaurants and popular attractions are not often completely accessible.

Does Silversea offer wheelchair-accessible transportation between the ship and visiting site?

If available in the port yes, however this is not often available.

How Silversea assist disabled guests during excursions?

If wheelchair accessible excursions are not available, it is recommended to guests to book a private vehicle where they can have a dedicated guide and driver who can give them full attention. On regular shore excursions, the guide must look after all guests and may not be able to fully assist disabled guests.

Tendering

Tendering

Many ports of call require guests on the vessels to go to shore by tender craft. If you choose to participate in an excursion which includes tendering, you must be able to negotiate narrow stairs to enter and exit the tenders with limited assistance. When the vessel is required to tender guests, the vessel will not be moored, and a gangway will not be available. During tendering, Silversea is unable to transport wheelchairs or mobility scooters with guests.
