The infinite variety of street life, the nooks and crannies of the medieval Barri Gòtic, the ceramic tile and stained glass of Art Nouveau facades, the art and music, the throb of street life, the food (ah, the food!)—one way or another, Barcelona will find a way to get your full attention. The capital of Catalonia is a banquet for the senses, with its beguiling mix of ancient and modern architecture, tempting cafés and markets, and sun-drenched Mediterranean beaches. A stroll along La Rambla and through waterfront Barceloneta, as well as a tour of Gaudí’s majestic Sagrada Famíliaand his other unique creations, are part of a visit to Spain’s second-largest city. Modern art museums and chic shops call for attention, too. Barcelona’s vibe stays lively well into the night, when you can linger over regional wine and cuisine at buzzing tapas bars.
Having attracted over 82 million visitors in 2017, Spain is gaining popularity as a travel destination. The country lures travellers from across the world with its promise of authenticity, charisma, and memorable moments. Spain’s culture is a celebration of the finer things in life, an expression of spirit, heritage and fun: colourful fiestas, delectable cuisine, age-defining art, music, dance, sport and so much more. Each region of the country has evolved a character of its own, meaning the country is unified by a sense of cultural multiplicity. Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is a masterpiece that embellishes the Spanish canvas. The fact that the Barcelona’s iconic cathedral, La Sagrada Familia, is still under construction over 141 years after construction commenced pays testament to the city’s artistic perfectionism, which pervades all aspects of life here. Apparent in the city’s architecture, layout, and cultural practices, aestheticism retains its value here. Antoni Gaudí, whose iconic style of modernist architecture is among Barcelona’s leading attractions, could perhaps be credited with designing the face of this magnificent city. Enjoy getting to know the vivacious personality behind Barcelona’s beauty.
If you look north of the cathedral (La Seu, or the seat of the bishopric, to Mallorcans) on a map of the city of Palma, you can see around the Plaça Santa Eulàlia a jumble of tiny streets that made up the earliest settlement. Farther out, a ring of wide boulevards traces the fortifications built by the Moors to defend the larger city that emerged by the 12th century. The zigzags mark the bastions that jutted out at regular intervals. By the end of the 19th century, most of the walls had been demolished; the only place where you can still see the massive defenses is at Ses Voltes, along the seafront west of the cathedral.A torrent (streambed) used to run through the middle of the old city, dry for most of the year but often a raging flood in the rainy season. In the 17th century it was diverted to the east, along the moat that ran outside the city walls. Two of Palma’s main arteries, La Rambla and the Passeig d’es Born, now follow the stream’s natural course. The traditional evening paseo (promenade) takes place on the Born.If you come to Palma by car, park in the garage beneath the Parc de la Mar (the ramp is just off the highway from the airport, as you reach the cathedral) and stroll along the park. Beside it run the huge bastions guarding the Almudaina Palace; the cathedral, golden and massive, rises beyond. Where you exit the garage, there’s a ceramic mural by the late Catalan artist and Mallorca resident Joan Miró, facing the cathedral across the pool that runs the length of the park.If you begin early enough, a walk along the ramparts at Ses Voltes from the mirador beside the cathedral is spectacular. The first rays of the sun turn the upper pinnacles of La Seu bright gold and then begin to work their way down the sandstone walls. From the Parc de la Mar, follow Avinguda Antoni Maura past the steps to the palace. Just below the Plaça de la Reina, where the Passeig d’es Born begins, turn left on Carrer de la Boteria into the Plaça de la Llotja (if the Llotja itself is open, don’t miss a chance to visit—it’s the Mediterranean’s finest Gothic-style civic building). From there stroll through the Plaça Drassana to the Museu d’Es Baluard, at the end of Carrer Sant Pere. Retrace your steps to Avinguda Antoni Maura. Walk up the Passeig d’es Born to Plaça Joan Carles I, then right on Avenida de La Unió.
A rugged Mediterranean gem, arising out of the rich blue haze, Mallorca is a Spanish island of cuisine, culture, and sun-gorged beaches. Palma de Mallorca is the island’s dominating capital, and a sand-coloured mirage of glorious buildings and living history. Conquered and liberated countless times over the years, since its Bronze Age founding, the city is your gateway to ceaseless Mediterranean beauty, buzzy markets, and intense flavours. Cafes and bars wait close to the sweeping coastline, where you can enjoy strong espressos to kick start the day, or splashes of red Majorcan wines to round it off. Bicycles trundle up and down the promenade, which invites you to wander in the morning sunshine beside the waves. Dominated by the indefatigable form of Santa María cathedral, which looms over the city and coastline, Palma de Mallorca is drenched in history and culture. The labyrinth of the old town is a cobbled haven, which bustles with dripping ice creams and sun-lashed squares. Settle to try the island’s superb cuisine, and savour local ingredients with an exceptional depth of flavour. Something about the sunshine here makes tomatoes extra sharp and delicious, while the seafood is consistently juicy and plump. The creation of the mighty cathedral, Le Seu, began in 1229 and was eventually concluded in 1601. A perfect encapsulation of Palma de Mallorca’s blend of the historic and the contemporary, even Gaudi lent his hand to it, and the interior features a spectacular modernist take on the New Testament from artist Miquel Barcelo, which is painted across the chapel’s walls. The splendid Royal Palace of La Almudaina fortress stands nearby, a left-behind Moorish footprint of square towers and Arabic archways that now serves as an official summer residence for the King of Spain.
Known in Sardinia as Casteddu, the island’s capital has steep streets and impressive Italianate architecture, from modern to medieval. This city of nearly 160,000 people is characterized by a busy commercial center and waterfront with broad avenues and arched arcades, as well as by the typically narrow streets of the old hilltop citadel (called, simply, “Castello”). The Museo Archeologico makes a good starting point to a visit. The imposing Bastione di Saint Remy and Mercato di San Benedetto (one of the best fish markets in Italy) are both musts.
The serene sea approach to Cagliari is an exquisitely beautiful way to first lay eyes on the city’s mesmerising interplay of colour, spires and domed churches. Sat on Sardinia’s south coast, Cagliari is the island’s largest city, and a sun-blessed escape of beaches, architecture and Mediterranean food – where stress evaporates on contact. That first sight of Cagliari’s mosaic of architecture reveals much about the island’s history, and is a living document of the civilisations and influences that have passed through. Combining Byzantine churches with crumbling Roman ruins and Pisan towers, it’s an elegant, beguiling place to explore. Usher in the morning with a short, sharp espresso hit, before wandering along to San Benedetto market’s bustle, crammed full of overflowing heaps of local produce. Taste crisp, freshly-baked bread, thin shavings of sheep’s cheese, and ripe red strawberries, as you wander amid the market’s melody of good-natured bartering. The Castello quarter’s tight, flower-draped streets and salmon-hued brick buildings incline up above the Med’s softly lapping waves. Climb Bastione di Saint Remy staircase to Terrazza Umberto’s views of the turquoise Gulf of Angels. Next, Cathedral of Santa Maria awaits, with its marbled interiors, elaborate side chapels and intricately decorated crypt. Once you’ve unravelled Cagliari’s historical tapestry, Poetto Beach invites you to find a spot on almost five miles of uninterrupted sand, met by a dazzling expanse of turquoise water.
Tunisia’s capital lies at the western end of the shallow Lake Tunis which opens to the sea at La Goulette. This is the first of a string of beach suburbs that stretches away to the north it is here that the city’s port is located. This coastal area includes the ruins of ancient Carthage and the picturesque suburb of Sidi Bou Said places that attract more visitors than Tunis itself. As far as capital cities go Tunis has an easy-going unhurried air about it. It is a very liberal city by Islamic standards and certainly leading the way in Western trends for the rest of the country. In Tunisia the struggle for independence didn’t take the violent course that it did in Algeria. Ruler Ahmed Bey who governed from 1837 to 1855 encouraged Westernization and brought in military and other advisors to this end. In 1861 during the reign of Mohammed Sadiq a constitution – the first in the Arab world – was proclaimed. Until the time of the French protectorate the medina was very much the center of things. Then under the French influence the ville nouvelle (new city) emerged with its major banks department stores and administrative services. The main focus of ville nouvelle is the wide tree-lined Avenue Habib Bourguiba. At its western end this major thoroughfare becomes the Avenue de France terminating in the Place de la Victoire and the entrance to the medina.
Trapani, the most important town on Sicily’s west coast, lies below the headland of Mount Erice and offers stunning views of the Egadi Islands on a clear day. Trapani’s Old District occupies a scimitarshaped promontory between the open sea on the north and the salt marshes to the south. The ancient industry of extracting salt from the marshes has recently been revived, and it is documented in the Museo delle Saline. In addition to the salt marshes,Trapani’s other interesting environs include the beautiful little hill town of Erice, the promontory of Capo San Vito stretching north beyond the splendid headland of Monte Cofano, the lovely island of Motya and the town of Marsala. Trips farther afield will take you to the magnificent site of Segesta or the Egadi Islands, reached by boat or hydrofoil from Trapani Port.
Surrounded by glowing turquoise waters and rugged coastline Trapani invites you to explore western Sicily’s ruins intense flavours and sun-soaked leisure pursuits. Built on salt and tuna exports Trapani is experiencing a renaissance having been lovingly spruced up as a sailing capital and an international airport bringing in visitors from far and wide. The town looks out over the Egadi Islands gazing west to witness some of Siciliy’s most evocative sunset displays. Start exploring Trapani from its historic core a dense network of alleys hosting a collection of small shops restaurants and wine bars. You’ll encounter the Cathedral of San Lorenzo – where colourful artworks are spread below sweeping arches and a beautiful domed roof. Sicily feels like an island on the cusp of continents and Trapani practically has one foot in Africa as you soak in its pretty whitewash houses and fusion of foods and arts. Discover the Ancient Greek influence by venturing to rich archaeological sites nearby like Selinus and Segesta where the treasures from the past have been unearthed and displayed. Pyramids of white salt rise up at the Riserva Naturale Saline di Trapani e Paceco. These salt marshes and windmills are a symbol of Trapani and although sea salt production is much less important today the small white hills remain a Trapani landmark. Look out for the pink flamingos wading in the salt pans below. For beach days the Egadi Islands can be easily reached from Trapani – Favignana is the largest and most popular.
At first glance, it’s hard to imagine that this resort destination was one of the world’s great naval powers, and a sturdy rival of Genoa and Pisa for control of the Mediterranean in the 11th and 12th centuries. Once the seat of the Amalfi Maritime Republic, the town is set in a verdant valley of the Lattari Mountains, with cream-colored and pastel-hued buildings tightly packing a gorge on the Bay of Salerno. The harbor, which once launched the greatest fleet in Italy, now bobs with ferries and blue-and-white fishing boats. The main street, lined with shops and pasticcerie, has replaced a raging mountain torrent, and terraced hills flaunt the green and gold of lemon groves. Bearing testimony to its great trade with Tunis, Tripoli, and Algiers, Amalfi remains honeycombed with Arab-Sicilian cloisters and covered passages. In a way Amalfi has become great again, showing off its medieval glory days with sea pageants, convents-turned-hotels, ancient paper mills, covered streets, and its glimmering cathedral.
The Amalfi Coast is rightly celebrated as a treasure of Italy and you can enjoy the true scale of it and the feel of the salty sea breeze in your hair as you hike the Path of the Gods – where some of the best heavenly views of the beautiful beaches and improbably teetering villages open up below you. The call of beachside bliss is never far away and descending down to Duoglio Beach is a mesmerising introduction to the coastline’s jagged rock setting and crystalline waters. A dramatic ramp of steps rears up to Amalfi’s distinctive black and white striped Moorish-influenced cathedral which stands at the heart of the town. Inside tranquillity awaits amid the arches and columns of the Cloister of Paradise. Chattering piazzas where ice cubes clink in glowing spritz cocktails and strong espressos are savoured hum with life nearby. Enjoy plates of shellfish tangled spaghetti or spicy pezzente salami in your choice of the Amalfi Coast’s celebrated restaurants before tasting locally-squeezed limoncello – the perfect denouement to any meal here. Grand villas spectacular restaurants and well-heeled visitors have long given Amalfi a reputation for refined luxury but things haven’t always been so peaceful here. In the 10th and 11th centuries Amalfi was an independent maritime republic and the Municipal Museum of Amalfi is the place to learn of the region’s rise to global trading prominence and the devastating tsunami that washed it all away in 1343.
Italy’s vibrant capital lives in the present, but no other city on earth evokes its past so powerfully. For over 2,500 years, emperors, popes, artists, and common citizens have left their mark here. Archaeological remains from ancient Rome, art-stuffed churches, and the treasures of Vatican City vie for your attention, but Rome is also a wonderful place to practice the Italian-perfected il dolce far niente, the sweet art of idleness. Your most memorable experiences may include sitting at a caffè in the Campo de’ Fiori or strolling in a beguiling piazza.
All roads lead to Rome, and with good reason – this city is one of the world’s most thrilling, offering unmatched history along every street. An evocative, inspiring and utterly artistic capital of unrivalled cultural impact, Rome is a city of back-to-back landmarks, which will take you on an exhilarating journey through the ages. This may be one of the world’s oldest cities, but it’s well and truly lived in. The ruins are punctuated with murmuring cafes, and the outdoor seating of restaurants sprawls out across piazzas, enticing you to sample tangles of creamy pasta and crispy pizzas. Rome’s incredible Roman Forum is littered with the ruins of its ancient administrations, which have stood firm for 2,000 years, since the times when the area was the centre of the Western world. Few sites are more simultaneously beautiful and haunting than that of the storied Colosseum, which looms deep into Rome’s rich blue sky. Take a tour to learn details of the grisly goings-on within. The best way to experience Rome is to wander its streets, gelato in hand. There is a lot to see here – whether it’s the domed spectacle of the Pantheon, or the elaborate flowing waters and artistry of the Trevi Fountain. Vatican City is an astonishing, colossal display of Catholic grandeur, while the Spanish Steps – crowned by the Trinità dei Monti church – offer a beautiful spot to gather and soak up the lively atmosphere of this humming city. With so much on the to-do list, you’ll relish the breaks you take, enjoying simple pleasures like a strong espresso, or fresh pasta with tomato sauce and ripped basil.

Silversea cruise guidelines state that children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult aged 21 or over, in the same or a connecting suite, for the duration of the voyage. Each suite that includes a minor must have at least one adult aged 21 or over present. If the adult accompanying the minor is not their parent, a Parental Consent Guardianship Form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian and received by Silversea prior to sailing. Please contact our Special Services Department at SpecialServices@Silversea.com for a Parental Consent Form.
Guests must be 21 years of age or older to purchase or consume alcohol. Silversea reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who, in its sole judgment, may be under the influence of alcohol or in any circumstance necessary to preserve the health and safety of guests and crew.
Silversea cannot accommodate infants less than six months of age and reserves the right to limit the number of children less than three years of age. Parents are required to sign a notarized waiver prior to sailing to grant a valid booking for children ages between 6 months and 1 year old. A signed and notarized waiver will be required for all children of these ages.
Although Silversea accepts guests over the age of 6 months (over the age of 5 years for Silversea Expeditions), there are no special programs for children on board our ships, and Silversea does not provide childcare, entertainment, or supervision. Silversea reserves the right to limit the number of children less than 3 years of age.
Children under the age of 8 years are permitted to participate in suitable Shore Excursions or shuttle services only if the vehicles are equipped with the correct safety harness and seating equipment. Child harnesses and secure seating cannot be guaranteed. Silversea reserves the right to refuse children under 8 years old on any tour on the basis of safety. Guests may use their own approved safety seat, booster seat, or harness, provided it is compatible with the local touring vehicle and can properly secure the child.
To ensure guest safety and comfort, the following minimum ages apply to expedition activities:
As Silversea does not provide childcare services, an adult family member must remain onboard with any child who does not meet the minimum age requirements.
Pets cannot be accommodated on any Silversea cruise.
Inoculations
Generally, inoculations are not required in most areas where Silversea travels. These requirements are subject to change and it is recommended that you verify current guidelines with your travel professional prior to departure. Please note that when travelling to countries that do require inoculations, written verification will be necessary. Before taking any trip overseas, it is wise to check with your doctor, particularly if you are under a doctor’s care.
Medical Services On Board
Each Silversea ship is equipped with a Medical Centre, which is customarily staffed by a doctor and nurse on 24-hour call when at sea. When docked, supplementary emergency care may also be obtained through local medical facilities. Guests may be charged for medical services and for medications used for their medical treatment. The Medical Centre is not intended or designed to provide ongoing treatment of pre-existing conditions or for extended critical care, and Silversea is not responsible for the diagnosis, treatment or services furnished by shipboard medical personnel. Guests requiring oxygen for medical reasons are welcome to bring an oxygen concentrator onboard. Guests wishing to bring their own portable oxygen tanks must obtain prior written authorisation from Silversea, as restrictions may apply.
Pregnancy
Silversea policy regarding pregnancy is derived from the Cruise Lines International Association endorsement of the American College of Emergency Physicians Health Care Guidelines for Cruise Ship Medical Facilities, which can be found at https://www.acep.org/. This includes the guideline that “Pregnant women who have entered the 24th week of estimated fetal gestational age at any time during the cruise should not be eligible to sail with the ship. It is Silversea policy that any Guest who will have entered her 24th week of pregnancy or greater, at any time during the cruise, will be prohibited from sailing. The Guest and treating physician should consider before any cruise that there is no Obstetrician/Gynecologist available on the ship, and that pregnancies, when unstable and poorly controlled, are potentially life-threatening, especially without back up. A Guest may be at sea for several days without any immediate hospital and/or specialist back up, and that since the proposed itinerary is not within the U.S., and the availability of specialized shore side facilities can be problematic. All guests are required to sign a health questionnaire at check-in to ensure they are aware of our pregnancy policy. If you have already booked a cruise or cruise tour and do not meet this requirement, please contact your travel agent or airline.
Prescription Medication
For your convenience and wellbeing, it is important that you bring a sufficient supply of any prescription medicine you may need. Prescriptions cannot be refilled onboard, and usually cannot be refilled overseas. To prevent delays in clearing Customs, it is also a good idea to travel with a doctor’s letter explaining that your prescription medication is required for your continued health. It is also recommended that the medicine remain in its original container with the original pharmacy label intact.
Special Medical Conditions
If you have any existing medical condition that may require attention, or should you require oxygen for medical reasons whilst onboard, please send written notification prior to your voyage to specialservices@silversea.com or via fax to 954-759-5049. Please note that an oxygen concentrator is the only form of oxygen equipment that the Silversea ships can accommodate. Guests who rely upon wheelchairs must bring their own. Please note that not all shore excursions are suitable for guests with impaired mobility.
Health & Medical Requirements
All guests are required to report in writing to Silversea at the time their reservation is made:
By booking passage and by boarding the ship, the guest represents and warrants that he / she is physically and otherwise fit to travel, and that the guest will comply at all times with applicable rules and regulations of the ship and orders and instructions of the ship’s officers and medical staff. Silversea reserves the right without liability to require a guest to disembark and / or to refuse to board and transport a guest who, in the judgment of Silversea or the ship’s Master, is unfit to travel or may require care beyond that which Silversea is reasonably able to provide. Silversea strongly recommends wheelchair guests travel with someone who is able to assist them both ashore and at sea as Silversea may be unable to offer special assistance. Please note that wheel-on and / or wheel-off access may not be available at some ports-of-call. Wheelchair guests must bring their own collapsible wheelchair.
For guests travelling aboard Expedition Fleet vessels, Silversea strongly recommends wheelchair guests travel with someone who is able
to assist them both ashore and at sea as Silversea may be unable to offer special assistance. Please note that wheel-on and / or wheel-off access may not be available at some ports-of-call. Wheelchair guests must bring their own collapsible wheelchair.
Complete valet services, including laundry, pressing and wet cleaning, are available at an additional charge and may be arranged through your butler. Customary charges will apply. A self-service launderette (excluding Silver Origin) offers washing machines, dryers, irons and laundry supplies, allowing you to limit the amount of cruise luggage needed, especially for longer voyages.
I have allergies. Can special detergent be used to wash my sheets and towels?
Silversea can notify Housekeeping Services of your preferences. Please email specialservices@silversea.com in advance of your cruise.
During the day, guests are welcome to dress in relaxed attire comparable to five-star resort wear. Lightweight, comfortable clothing and flat or low-heeled shoes are recommended for time spent on outdoor decks.
Starting at 6:00 p.m. each evening, Silversea maintains a dress code of modern luxury. Evening wear falls into different categories, and a detailed dress code policy is provided here.
A reasonable amount of cruise luggage may be brought aboard the ship without charge. For Silversea guests or guests on land programmes, luggage must be handled in accordance with regulations and tariffs of airlines and/or ground operators.
Luggage allowance policies may vary by airline, destination and class of service. Most, if not all, airlines strictly enforce their carry-on and checked luggage policies and you may be required to pay additional fees should the weight and size of your luggage be outside the airline’s set policy and/or the number of pieces exceed the free luggage allowance. Since the airlines’ policies change frequently, it is strongly recommended that you or your travel professional obtain current baggage allowance restrictions via the airline’s website or by contacting the air carriers directly.
Please note that guests are, at all times, fully responsible for any/all airline baggage fees. For travel to/from and within the United States, please visit https://bags.amadeus.com/ or the individual air carriers’ website for a complete listing of baggage fees.
Silver Shore Land Adventures may impose additional baggage limitations. Your final travel documents include the details of your Land Adventure’s baggage limitations, if applicable. All luggage must be securely packed and tagged with the supplied pre-printed cruise luggage tags supplied as part of your documentation package. In accordance with airport security restrictions for carry-on baggage, it is recommended that you hand carry travel documents (passports, visas, inoculation verification, cruise and air tickets), medications and valuables. Liquid, fragile, perishable and other articles not suitably packed are transported at your own risk. Under no circumstances may dangerous items (including but not limited to: explosives, firearms, combustible or illegal substances) be taken aboard the ship.
Items prohibited on board include:
There are limits to where smart glasses can be worn onboard. Smart glasses cannot be worn in the casino, spa service areas, restrooms, locker rooms, medical facilities, security screening locations, during back-of-house tours, in crew areas, or anywhere there is a reasonable expectation for guest and crew privacy.
Smart glasses users who are seen violating this policy will have the glasses confiscated by the Chief Security Officer or Staff Captain.
If such items are found, they may be confiscated and returned on the last day of the voyage prior to disembarkation.
Silversea is not responsible for loss or damage to luggage or any other personal item that may occur, or while participating in hotel and/or land programmes or shore excursions. To avoid the possibility of losing cruise luggage en route to the port of embarkation, it is recommended to ship your cruise luggage ahead of you via Silversea’s Silver Shore Baggage Valet programme or other service.
Upon embarkation, Silversea will make every effort to deliver your cruise luggage in a timely manner; however delivery may be delayed due to strict customs formalities that are beyond the ship’s control, so please remember to pack all essentials in your carry-on bag.
At Silversea, the safety of all guests is paramount. To ensure a comfortable environment for all, smoking is prohibited in most public areas, guest suites, and suite balconies. However, cigarette, e-cigarette, cigar, pipe, and vaporizer smoking is permitted in the Connoisseur’s Corner — both indoors and outdoors where applicable. In addition, cigarette, e-cigarette, and vaporizer smoking is only permitted in designated outside areas.
Silversea kindly requests that all guests respect the non-smoking areas.
Non-denominational services are held aboard ship on Sundays. Catholic, Protestant and/or Jewish clergy will be onboard during select holidays, when possible.
All Silversea ships are equipped to offer wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access. You can use your own laptop to surf the Internet and check emails at Wi-Fi locations throughout the ship, or from the comfort and privacy of your suite. Computers, email and Internet access are also available on board at the Internet Café. However, it is important to understand that telecommunication services while at sea are via satellite and significantly different than high-speed connections on land back home. The signal travels in a similar manner to radio waves but at much greater distances. Therefore, onboard Internet access is not guaranteed at all times. Satellite communications are also affected by weather and the ship’s location. In particular, Internet service is extremely sporadic while in the Arctic. Guests aboard expedition cruises to/from Svalbard should be prepared to be out of communication for the duration of their time on board.
BEFORE BOOKING
Do guests need to notify Silversea in advance about mobility needs?
Yes, guests should inform Silversea of any special assistance or mobility equipment requirements before sailing. This can be done via My Silversea under Guest Information / Special Request, or by contacting specialservices@silversea.com.
Does Silversea provide wheelchairs?
Yes, each vessel has wheelchairs available at the reception for temporary use, such as embarkation and disembarkation. Guests who require a wheelchair for the entire cruise should bring their own.
Can guests bring their own mobility equipment?
Yes, personal wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility aids are allowed. However, guests staying in standard (non-ADA) suites should note that electric scooters may not fit through the doors.
Therefore, guests traveling with a wheelchair, scooter, or ECV are always highly suggested to book a wheelchair-accessible suite with a wider entrance door and an appropriate path of travel inside the room and accommodate the equipment. Regular Suites have a narrower entrance door and may not have the necessary interior space to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters.
What features do wheelchair-accessible suites offer?
Silversea ships offer specially designed suites for guests who require mobility assistance. These suites are equipped with wider entrance doors and appropriate paths of travel to accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility equipment. All areas within these suites are reachable without the need for additional ramps, except for Silver Suites onboard Silver Moon and Silver Dawn and Classic Veranda onboard Silver Endeavour. In these suites Silversea offer ramp to go outside the balcony. The vessels also have wheelchairs available at the reception for guest use.
EMBARKATION & DISEMBARKATION
How do guests get on and off the ship with mobility equipment?
Silversea vessels have procedures in place to assist guests with mobility equipment during embarkation and disembarkation. When the gangway is flat, guests can drive their wheelchair off the ship. However, if the gangway involves stairs, our staff will provide assistance. The Safety Officer or Bridge must be informed whenever a wheelchair is involved in disembarkation or boarding, and our crew members are available to assist guests in need.
Is assistance available for boarding?
Yes, but guests who require full-time assistance should travel with a companion, as Silversea does not provide dedicated personal caregivers. Butlers can assist with getting to the gangway or dining venues but do not provide continuous mobility assistance.
ONBOARD
Silversea’s ships are designed for accessibility, featuring:
How does Silversea assist disabled guests in their suites?
Silversea butler can provide reasonable assistance to guest getting to and from the gangway, and to and from a restaurant, however Silversea does not offer full-time wheelchair service and/or staff fully dedicated to providing Guests with wheelchair assistance. Guests traveling on their own wheelchair should be assisted only when requested and are recommended to travel with an able bodily companion.
GOING ASHORE
Are all ports wheelchair accessible?
Not all ports have wheelchair-friendly infrastructure. In some destinations, tender boats or on Silversea Expeditions Zodiacs are required for disembarkation, and wheelchairs or mobility scooters cannot be accommodated in these cases.
Can guests arrange private accessible transportation in port?
If available, private wheelchair-accessible vehicles can be arranged. In some ports, shuttle buses may be wheelchair accessible, but availability is not guaranteed.
Does Silversea offer wheelchair-accessible shore excursions?
Until now we have been offering dedicated “Wheelchair Accessible Excursions” in some areas of the world., These tours are operated by wheelchair accessible vehicles and include only wheelchair accessible venues. These tours are mainly offered in Europe and the US. If you have any questions or concerns regarding shore excursion suitability, please contact the Shore Concierge (shoreconcierge@silversea.com) before your voyage or visit the Shore Concierge desk for more detailed information once onboard.
Wheelchair accessible shore excursions are indicated on the website with the universal accessibility icon.
Are there alternatives for guests with limited mobility?
In almost every port, Silversea offers low-activity excursions specially designed for mobility challenged guests, who can negotiate the steps on and off the coaches.
Is there any destination that is not recommend to guests with disabilities?
The more exotic destinations, like Asia, South Africa and South America it is recommended to guest to book a private vehicle due to the lack of infrastructure, for example wheelchair accessible vehicles are very rare to find and museums, restaurants and popular attractions are not often completely accessible.
Does Silversea offer wheelchair-accessible transportation between the ship and visiting site?
If available in the port yes, however this is not often available.
How Silversea assist disabled guests during excursions?
If wheelchair accessible excursions are not available, it is recommended to guests to book a private vehicle where they can have a dedicated guide and driver who can give them full attention. On regular shore excursions, the guide must look after all guests and may not be able to fully assist disabled guests.
Many ports of call require guests on the vessels to go to shore by tender craft. If you choose to participate in an excursion which includes tendering, you must be able to negotiate narrow stairs to enter and exit the tenders with limited assistance. When the vessel is required to tender guests, the vessel will not be moored, and a gangway will not be available. During tendering, Silversea is unable to transport wheelchairs or mobility scooters with guests.
Silversea will make every attempt to accommodate guests with special dietary requirements. If you have any special needs, please note them on the Guest Information Form or have your travel agent fax Silversea Special Services (+ 1 954-759-5049) or email: specialservices@silversea.com at least 120 days before sailing. Extra charges might apply
Complimentary shoeshine service is available to all guests upon request.
If you would like to make arrangements for visitors to board the vessel, please have your travel agent contact Silversea Special Services. Requests should be made in writing no later than 14 days before departure. Silversea may limit the number of visitors permitted onboard or not allow visitors in certain destinations.
